I've noticed not only in my home, but my parents house to, that when we go to use our dish towels, they smell horrible after washing them. We've tried vinegar since that's what i was was told to use, and it did not work. I know i've heard of other things to try, but being a M., i'm forgetful...help my stinky towel smell go away without having to toss them in the trash :) thanks M.'s

I am a part of Clorox's M.-Wire, and I was given some of their new kitchen towels, Fresh Care. They have some sort of antibacterial protection that resists order causing bacteria. They do start to smell, but only slightly. And once you wash them in bleach, it reactivates, and they smell wonderful!
I haven't had to buy any towels since!
If you are talking about that sour smell then I use a cup of ammonia INSTEAD of bleach. Do not mix ammonia with bleach!
What works for me is to dump a little bit of Febreeze into the washer with the soap. I usually use about a 1/2 soap capful of febreeze - works like a charm.
I put a cup of baking soda in with them when I wash. They sell it in bigger boxes in the laundry isle rather than the small cooking or fit in the fridge box.

I always wash my towels in the hot/cold cycle and then dry them on hi heat. Its what works for me. I've also been told to try baking soda, but it doesn't seem to work for me. Maybe my water is different. Good luck.
