Eight Schools in CUSD (And Counting!) Who REQUIRE Students to Wear Uniforms???

I am curious how many people who live in, or have children attend, the Chandler Unified School District (Arizona), know that there are eight elementary schools who already require their students to wear uniforms, and more heading in that direction.
I am also curious how people from other areas of Chandler feel about this. Personally, I'd like to keep my choice as a parent to dress my own children, but it seems there are many (a majority in this part of Chandler) who would rather the school decide for them.
I am really struggling with this issue and would love to hear everyone's input.
By the way, I've heard all the arguments for, I just don't agree with them in most cases and especially for our PUBLIC schools. ;o)
Thanks!

Editing for clarification: This is not a question of IF there are schools in CUSD that require uniforms, it IS FACT. Each and every school in the Chandler Unified School District, can and some have, invoked a required uniform for their students. Personally I am against the PUBLIC schools telling me how to dress my children when I already dress them within a specified dress code. Ultimately, I guess what I'd like, is to hear support from other parents within the District (and state because the state says it's ok)against this. It will soon be on the Board's agenda for approval. Is your school next???

What can I do next?

S.,
We do not live in the Chandler school district and my son doesn't go to a public school. I have him in a Charter school which he loves and they do require a uniform, which is ok since it is a charter school. I guess I am writing to say that I support you and agree that if it is a public school, they should not have a say so!!!!!!! After all, they are a PUBLIC school, not private and not a charter so why do they get to dictate what students wear. I have never heard of such a thing. I mean I have heard of a dress code: skirts not too short, tops that are not too revealing, etc. but not a uniform!!!
Bottom line - I AGREE WITH YOU!!!! Good luck!

CUSD has 4 traditional schools that are not charter schools, but optional traditional schools. They are home schools for their neighborhoods but residents have the option to go somewhere else. I am a teacher at one of these schools and also have a Kindergartener there too.
I personally love the uniforms for many reasons.
1. I feel like attention is taken away from the social status of a student.
2. It draws attention away from the social pressures of popularity and fashion.
3. Many parents find there is less fights with their child on what they can wear to school, because the rules are clearly outlined.
4. It's easier, everything matches.
5. It's cheaper for those students who struggle with money. No one knows if they wear the same shirt or pants more than once a week.
I have had many parents comment on how much they like the uniforms, many that were reluctant in the begining. I haven't met a parent that didn't like them.
Personally as a parent I don't feel like my school is telling me how to dress my child, I'm chosing to send my child to the school.

Hi S.,
I am a SAHM of two girls. My oldest is 6 and even though we live in Gilbert she attends a Chandler school that requires uniforms. I was a little unsure about school uniforms when she started but I have to say that they have grown on me. Target carries a cute selection.....I am sorry this is so short but I have to run. Feel free to contact me and I will give you my email so we can talk some more about this. :) Hope you have a great day.

I live in CUSD. So far I know just the Chandler Traditional Schools have the kids wear uniforms starting in Kindergarten. My friend's son has 4 sets of beige slacks and 4 navy blue polos.

Hi, I do know there are schools in the CUSD that make the children wear uniforms. These schools are charter schools and you must enroll in them. They are part of the school district but are not your home school unless you chose that your child attend a charter school. That is what I find to be true, my children attend school in the district and wear what they like. I am also a sahm , but I work hard and sure you do too! My kids are 6, 9, and 20.
