Eco-friendly Diaper Options

When my first son was born I had him at a hospital and they provided pampers while we were there and sent us home with the remainder of the pack when we went home. I used them until the meconium was all gone and then we switched over to cloth. For our second child I'm planning to give birth at a birth center and we will not stay there for more than 12 hours post-birth and they won't be sending us home with diapers. So now I'm trying to figure out which diapers are best. I definitely want to avoid chlorine, so that eliminates most national brands and I'd also like to avoid the gel, which takes out seventh generation as well. From the research I've done it seems my options are Tushies, Broody Chick and Nature Babycare. I would like to hear from any moms who have used any of these brands and what your thoughts are about them. And, if there is another one out there that I'm missing please fill me in. Thanks!

Gdiapers or Flip. They have a reusable cover with a disposable inserts. I like the gdiaper inserts better, but the flip covers I love. That is what I am doing now with my son with a stomach bug and nasty poops. No stains on my diapers :D

They also sell paper diaper liners that you can use with your cloth diapers. I've never used them, but they do get some good reviews.

GroVia with disposable insert? I love my GroVias, but we didn't start them til baby was about eight weeks, so not sure how they fit a newborn.

I used both Seventh Generation and Earth's Best, for the first month before we switched to cloth. I didn't really like Seventh Generation. We LOVED Earth's Best. I've heard great things about Whole Food's store brand. My friend swears by those, but I have not used them.

what kind of cloth system do you use? You could possibly use a cloth diaper cover with a disposable insert and a diaper liner to catch the meconium before you officially switch over to cloth, if that is what you are doing. Or maybe use g-diapers with disposable inserts?

I have not used any of these, just cloth with cloth, or huggies naturals or similar "disposies" if I need them. Since I don't use them that much, i think the total harm is pretty minimal.

We use Earth's Best chlorine free diapers. I order them from Amazon through subscribe and save, so they deliver them to my door every month! They also sell them at Babies/Toys R Us, but we don't have a convenient one near us so ordering works best for us.

I used Earth's Best when I was not using cloth. They are chlorine free.
