DTAP Vaccination

Hello,
I have decided to give my child single dose shots vs. combo shots as I am not sold on the idea that the preservatives are safe. Does anyone know if the DTap shot is offered in single doses as the MMR shot is? I thought Bayer manufactured this product but they do not. Also, I am looking for advise on a vaccination schedule to follow, I do not agree with the all the vaccinations given in one visit every few months, I feel it is too much for their little bodies. If anyone agrees I would really appreciate your feedback.

What can I do next?

I understand what you are saying... If you are going to use the combo shots try having the doctor's give two at a time... you dont want your little one being afraid of going to the doctors!!! and the more shots the more afraid they are!!!

well I am not sure if I am understanding fully your question... by single dose do you mean like one for diptheria one for tetanus and one for pertussis? or just taking the dtap one time throughout their life and that's it? I found one really helpful website with info regarding this particular vaccine: http://www.vaccineinformation.org/pertuss/qandavax.asp
I understand being worrisome about vaccines but like the other woman said if they weren't safe they wouldn't be allowed. There have been lots of outbreaks throughout the us of pertussis (whooping cough) and they figure it's due to the fact the vaccine that teens and younger adults got have now worn out. I know a woman who now has asthma and chronic bronchitis as a result of getting pertussis so it can be very serious. there are some I don't necessarily agree with... like chicken pox - I think we will be looking at the same problem in about a decade of having adult epidemics of chicken pox. But who knows. guess we'll see. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Let me tell you. I as a mom of a child diagnosed with ASD have searched high and low for info regarding Vaccines, expecially the MMR vaccinations. I've been asking my Pedi and the nurses giving the Vaccines numerous questions. I also reasearched Thimerosal. They no longer use this as a preservative because it does contain Mercury. I read on a few websites that some people feel the MMR and Austim have a link, however, my Pedi and other websites say there is no known proven link that suggests this. I am still in the process of figuring this all out myself. My son is going to be 3 in September and I have given him all of his vaccinations. I also have a daughter who too got her vaccinations. She's due for her 15 month check up in a month. I didn't even think to worry until March when they suggested ASD. Now they tell me they can't tell me why. So, I went to the first place research led me. Now, I'm going to ask ahead of time what vaccines they plan on giving and researching them before I give them to my child. This has opened my eyes because you don't know. I'm not saying don't trust your Pedi because I do trust mine, however, they did use Thimerosal and that was supposed to be safe. Mercury IS NOT safe. I guess the right wording is the vaccines are safe 'for now'. Good Luck and I wish I could've been more help for you. I don't know a whole lot about all the different vaccines, but like I said, I'll be learning about all before it's given to my child. Good Luck!!

in my opinion. i think it is worse to give individual shots because you are bringing them back to the doctors office more often to get one shot here and one shot there instead of doing it in one visit. it if wasn't safe the amercian pediatric association wuldn't let be be approved. there is a single vial of dtap available becuase 5 yr olds get it to go into kindergarden.

I am with you on the concerns. I did not allow the MMR Shot to be given to my daughter last week at her annual check up. I found it interesting that my doctor said he was unsure if he could order single doses and would research it. His other option was to wait until two years after any show of autism would have revealed itself. I don't like the idea of waiting to immmunize and don't know how trustworthy it is that two years is the "timeframe" for autism to show. So, I am glad that you said that it is available in single doses. I will try to research the Dtap/schedule question and write again. If you learn something new before I do, please post. Thank you.
