Stop the car every couple of hours and take him out of the car seat. Let him stretch and put him down on a blanket so we can roll around. Then change his diaper and put him in his car seat. If you are bottle feeding, you can feed him while you are moving. Fill up with gas whenever you stop and keep snacks in the car, because if he is asleep, you want to keep driving. We drove 17 hours straight (with stops, of course) with a 5 week old, and she was fine.

Hi - I had to drive 10 hours when my daughter was about 6 months old. I'm not going to lie, it was tough. I think that was because we were not able to make frequent stops as we had to visit an ill family member. My suggestion (if you can) is to break up the trip into two days or just keep driving but stop when the baby is awake. Keep what you need in the car for you and your dad so that when your little one is sleeping you don't have to stop and possibly wake the baby. Babies that age sleep a lot still so you might get lucky as the car may help your son to stay asleep longer. Also, buy some disposable changing pads as some of the highway bathrooms are not the cleanest.

It will be fine. Just be sure to take the baby out of the seat for some tummy time when you stop. Change diapers when needed and don't let him sit in a wet one very long. Be sure to pay attention to temperatures. Dress him in light clothes such as a onsie and keep a blanket nearby. If you get cold, he's probably cold, and vice a versa. Also, pay close attention to when the sun is coming through the windows. Put up something to block baby's skin or face from being sunburnt.

Good luck!

You need to plan on stopping every 2 hours for feeding and diaper changes. You'll need to sit by the baby so you can interact with him too. He will be much happier if he can see a face and have some play time with a toy and mamma. It may be good for dad to switch too so you can drive and he can take a break.
