Hey ladies, so I have yet another question, I am 8 weeks prego and the nausea is haunting me!!!. It seems I have it everyday all day no matter what I do. So I have been reading that lemon can help. So I am giving it a try. Here at my work they have a tea machine and we have "lemon zinger herbal tea" it has no caffeine and it is all natural.. So my question is is this safe since it says "herbal"????? I figure the smell of it and a few sips would not hurt but wanted to ask first.
Also another tea is a "ginger peach with matcha" that I wanted to try for the ginger it is also caffeine free. but I was not sure about the matcha, as I have never heard of this. And when I try to find answers online I get no where.
Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the help ladies, I just bought some lemons and put it in boiling water. It tastes great to me right now and kinda helps with the nausea.
If this fails I will try the ginger or the motion sickness bands next.
Thanks again

I love tea!!! So when I was pregnant I tried to get as much info as I could about it so that my baby would be safe. Sadly there really isn't any good info on teas being safe since they have not been tested. I also found out that even though the packet says that it's caffeine free they're not.
Caffeine free just means that it doesn't have as much caffeine as the regular one. I however drank lots of Fresh ginger tea. It works miracles with the morning sickness. I would recommend you get the organic fresh ginger and just cut small chunks and boil them. I never liked any sweeteners with my tea when I was pregnant since I would notice that my baby would get really active. I would eat grapes instead.

~hope that helps~

I'm not able to read all the responses, but it looks like you are avoiding the tea, which is good. Herbal remedies are in the unknown category, so better to stay away. Try having a little something to eat throughout the day, especially first thing in the morning. Empty stomachs seems to lead to the morning sickness. Also, if you have a health food store near you, look for some ginger candies. There are some good ones out there that are addictive, and I don't even have morning sickness.

Ask your doc about any herbal teas . Use the soft or hard peppermint candies for the nausea. herbal doesnt always mean safe.

Some herbs are safe to drink, and some are not. I've had the sleepytime tea myself, but I cleared it first. I recommend asking your doctor.

BTW, mint helped me a LOT. (The peppermint hard candies were my favorite, as well as spearmint gum)

I suffer with so called "morning" sickness for the first 7 months of my pregnancies. The following are some other useful remedies:
1. Peppermint oil rubbed into your temples.
2. Sea sickness bands! Can't live without them!
3. Really cold slimfast shakes. I know this one sounds crazy...but often when I couldn't keep anything down...these did the trick and I felt better afterwards.

Herbal doesn't neccesarily means safe or unsafe. You want to read the ingrediant. THe lemon zinger is probably okay. Chamomile and peppermint teas are okay too (again, read the ingredients).
Avoid anything with ginko and ginseng. They are less safe during pregnancy because of possible effects on the fetus. Also avoid anything with black or white tea/tea leafs. According to Wikipedia, matcha is a finely ground green tea leaf; not sure if green tea is advisable during pregnancy (ask your OB). Chai also refers to the actual tea leaf (often spiced tea) so I would avoid that too.
Celestial seasonings has some great herb tea options. You can usually find them on the same aisle as the coffee. I like the black cherry berry, the apple spice, the chamomile, and the peppermint. Double check the ingredients on any herb tea you buy, and if you're in doubt about what something is don't get it.

I'd say that a commercially marketed tea is highly unlikely to cause you a problem with pregnancy. Of course it is impossible to say for sure without knowing exactly which herbs are in the tea, but in my experience the ones that could cause contractions are too bitter to be included in your standard beverage teas.

The best remedy I know of for morning sickness is eating regularly (nearly constantly!). Low blood sugar is a common reason for pregnant woman to feel sick. To keep your blood sugar stable eat a PROTEIN based snack ever 2 hours or so. In between those snacks, eat small carb snacks (dry cheerios is great).

Peppermint is also very helpful. I could stave off the nausea by just inhaling deeply over an open tin of altoids at times.

Rest and sleep help a lot also. Listen to your bodies need for rest.

Good luck!

Hi--
Sometimes just lemon juice in your water helps. What helped me the best, though, is the motion sickness bands. You can get them at walgreens.

Chamomile tea is not okay. My husband is a doctor and he said it can induce contractions, but at the same time I have heard of people who drink it all through their pregnancies-I always avoided it. I guess it can relax the uterus.

Anyhow matcha is a green tea. Not herbal. They use a matcha powder in the green tea drinks at starbucks-I worked at a Barnes and Noble cafe. It is a Japanese tea that is usually found in a powdered form. Apparently the antioxidants are much greater than most green teas. I am sure you are fine drinking it.

Dear A A,

Make sure that the herbal teas are okay for you to drink during your pregnancy. Drinking ginger ale is good and be sure and eat something every two or three hours. Not a whole lot of food. Don't overeat because it causes heartburn and can make you feel sick.

Yes, if it's "herbal" then it is not actually tea - it's herbs. And there is no caffeine in that...

It depends on the specific herbs in the tea. I have found the ladies at the Good Earth stores to be very knowledgeable and helpful for questions like this. I can't remember what exactly their title is, but there is a help/customer service desk and they always direct me to the person to ask.

Matcha is a Japanese traditional ceremony green tea. I know that definitely Ginger will aid your nausea. I like to make concoctions kind of what you already do with the lemon. What's great for nausea and safe while pregnant is lemon, ginger, and aloe. I use an aloe concentrate from Herbalife and just put 3 capfuls (the mango flavor one is good) to water that has been boiled with lemons and ginger. www.shopherbalife.com/O.

There are warnings 'out there' about consuming herbal teas when pregnant, but it does depend on the herbs. Some are fine (I know for sure chamomile and peppermint are) and others are not. I would definitely check with your Dr first. Good luck, hope you have a fabulous pregnancy!

You don't have to drink tea to get lemon. Just squeeze some in water. Another remedy is organic apple cider vinegar. Both lemon and apple cider vinegar help your alkaline/acid PH balance. You might want to check this out:

I can definitely tell you that the lemon zinger tea is just fine - and its really tastey too!

As far as the nausea goes, when I had morning sickness with my first, the only thing I found that REALLY made me feel better was to keep my tummy full. I was not in the mood to eat hearty foods (I wanted crackers, fruit and veggies ect) but I found that light foods did nothing to help the sickness, meanwhile hearty foods (think comfort foods) actually would make the morning sickness go almsot completely AWAY for the next 2-3 hours until I got hungry again. Food with carbs, protein, fat, and calories... Yeah I know, not the best for your figure but if it makes you feel good, then you can't argue. I gained 5 lbs during the first trimester, so it didn't tip me over the top :-)

Good luck!

The only tea I have found that is safe for pregnancy is Pregnancy Tea. That's it. I went to vitamin cottage and stared at each and every box they had and each one said that it should not be drunk (drank?) if you're pregnant. Ginger is only good in very small doses.

I just have to add some more remedies that worked really well for me...
-Chewing mint gum
-Eat something high in protein before getting out of bed (I use nuts and raisins)
-"sea bands" they are wrist bands with a plastic node on them that pushes on your nausea (Nei Kuan) acupressure point.
-Crystallized Ginger, they are small ginger sugar crystals you can just pop them like candy.
-I also have to take my prenatal vitamins at night other wise I feel sick all day too. Switching those helped me the most.
Hope one of these is helpful.

Ant being prego fun! I was kinda like you with my 2nd. We were living in Italy at the time and I coulnt have the coffie and no wine, witch was hard, so all I had left was my tea! What My doc at the time tolled me was that MOST teas you can get in the stors are safe to drinf but jsut because it say herbal dose not always make it safe. There are some kinds of tea that can cause you to start labor, but for the life of me I cant rember whitch onese those are. So what I would say to you is stick with what you know is safe for now and talk to your doc about it the next time you see him/her. Or you could try call and skeeping to the nurse they might be able to answer yoiur qustion for you sooner. You might also want to try some fresh lemmon in some warm water! I am not sure how much this help. Good luck! And Congrats on the new little one!!!!

I'm pretty sure that the Celestial Seasonings herbal teas are fine to drink when you are pregnant. Avoid lots of peppermint -- as in don't drink 20 cups a day and don't deal with peppermint oil -- but a cup or two to settle your stomach isn't an issue. The other herbs that could cause problems are not generally in commercial herbal teas.

Matcha is powdered green tea. It won't hurt you. I don't care for the flavor, but many people love it.
