I just noited these white patches on the inside of my sons lip/cheak area. Could it be thrush? He doesnt take a bottle to bed, he just eats one before. It ry to keep his teeth and mouth as clean as possible. However sometimes it really hard, my son is 10.5 months old with 8 teeth. Its not the easiest thing to do. Do i need to make a doctors appt. or is there something i can do at home?

What can I do next?

HI C.
I went through this with both of my kids. The white spots that you are seeing in his mouth is most likely thrush. Really the only thing that can be done about is take him to the doctor and theyll most likely give you drops that youll have to give him. Hope this helps you. Good Luck.

It's possible that he does. Taking a bottle to bed isn't mainly causes it. Anything that is just a little bit dity that they stick in their mouths will cause it. My son had it when he was about 3 or 4 months old and got it b/c the people that watched him while I was at school saw nothing wrong with cleaning off his pacifier in their mouth that more than likly has more germs than what it fell on in the first place. I just brought him to the doctors and they gave him meds for it and it went away no problem

I would definitely call the doctor. It sounds like thrush. They give you an antibiotic for him. My son had it when he was teething. It can cause pain in his mouth if he does have it.

C.,

I would definately call the dr. It is nothing serious, my daughter had it when she was an infant. As for wanting a moms group, you can check out our group at http://parents.meetup.com/132/. We are a new playgroup out of Rochester, NY. We started at the end of January and are now up to 32 members. We offer playgroups, moms night out, family get togethers. We currently are running 2-3 playgroups per week for families with crazy lives. This way everyone can attend as little/as many as they would like. Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks,
C.

It does sound like your son has thrush. It is nothing that you have done. It is just yeast in his mouth. Some little ones get it and some do not. Do not scrap it off of his mouth, it will hurt. If it isn't affecting his eating, it should go away on its own... but you may want to call the dr and just let them know... they may prescribe something... good luck!! and don;t worry, you are doing a great job!!

C.,
Thrush is very easy to diagnose at home and even easier to treat at home. If you see a white sometimes chessy substance in the mouth that may or may not wipe off, but does not go away, this is thrush. It is actually created by antibiotics so getting more will just make it worse later! It is an yeast infection in the system. It is actually a VERY common occurance and that we ignore as we get older! The cure for it is acidophilus. This is found in yogart and in capsule and in liquid form. You can add the liquid right to his bottle. The yeast will also cause any gas he has been experiencing!

hello C., my name is jenn. you are not the only mother out there to have this problem, both my sons had thrush. unfortunatly the only thing to get rid of this is an antibiotic. i would call the doctor and get in right away to get some meds. thrush is a yeast infection and as nasty as it sounds it is pretty easy to get rid of. good luck

Both of my children got thrush from being on an antibiotic. It sound like it could be. Another possibility could be hand foot and mouth. I would call the pediatrician just to make sure.

It does indeed sound like your son has thrush, which is a yeast infection inside the mouth. Since this has to be treated with antibiotics, you will need to call your doctor and let them know you suspect thrush. If you're not sure, try gently wiping the white spot with a clean burp cloth and see if the spot clears or if it stays. If it stays, it's definitely thrush and needs to be treated by a doctor.

Giving a bottle at bedtime or not isn't the cause of thrush. It's an overgrowth of yeast. My daughter had it when she was about 4 months old and didn't have teeth yet. She was also breastfed. Some people (no matter the age) are more prone to developing yeast infections than others.

Sounds like thrush to me...both of my kids had this condition, except they were only about a month old. Just go to your pediatrician and he'll prescribe this purple stuff that paint in there....actually, with my second one the doctor just called the prescription in. I didn't even have to make an appt. And I don't really this thrush has to do with when they have a bottle..it's from yeast growth. I think it's the same form of yeast that causes yeast infections, so it is kind of like a yeast infection in their mouth. Sounds gross, but it's very common!! Hope this was helpful!
