Do They Make Swings for Toddlers Too?

I hate to say it but you are going to have to get him used to falling asleep the old fashioned way. He's only going to get bigger. And unless you are going to put up a swing set inside your house (cool) he will have to learn to go to sleep on his own - it's for his own good and DEFINITELY good for you.

You can try the old CIO/ferber method which works great. Or since he is a bit older, do the Supernanny routine of putting him in his bed with lights out (night light only), saying good night with kisses, etc. and leave. When he comes out it's back in with a kiss and a good night and leave. And from there on in, if he comes out of his room, you take him by the hand and bring him back to his bed - no kiss no talking. It will take a while the first night or two but he will learn how to soothe himself to sleep.

I'm with M. of 1. The longer he is used to this method, the harder it will get to break him of that habit.

I am shocked that your son can sit in the swing safely! My son tried to pull himself out and we had to pack it up when he was 5 months old! The only toddler safe swings I have seen are for outdoors, and I don't think that will work for you. I think you need to try getting him use to sleeping in his crib. My son use to only nap in his swing until he tried pulling himself out. I struggled to get him to nap in his crib, but I did baby steps until all of his naps were in the crib. What really helped was using a version of a bedtime routine, but only for naptime. Hopefully you can get him out of the swing and into his crib soon. Good Luck!

Our fisher price papasan style swing was good up to 35 pounds, so I imagine most young toddlers could actually use it.

They don't make swings for toddlers.
But I'll tell you what we did (though we didn't do it at night - only for naps).
We got a hammock chair and stand (we had a large living room) and he often napped in the chair (always with supervision - I didn't want him falling out if he woke up and tried to get out himself).
They have some nice ones made of canvas (which I think is safer for kids than the netted ones), and adults can sit in them, too.

A neighbor in TX had a red toddler swing with a blue thing that goes over the chest on their front porch. They hung it up close to the porch swing, so I know it exists, but wouldn't know where to get it. Wouldn't know who made it but by the look of it I'd guess little tykes? That might be good for just swinging and relaxing since he likes it, but not for falling asleep in it.
