Diswasher Won't Drain Completely

My handy husband is working out of town and I need a tip on what to do about my dishwasher.

The dishwasher for the past week or so has had an inch and a half of soapy water in the bottom and it won't drain completely. It is still working for the most part. And there's not any food particles down in the drain that I can see. Today, the dishes were't cleaned after the wash.

Anyone know what I can do to fix the problem?

What can I do next?

Take the bottom basket out, unscrew the water blade, lift the screen down there and make sure that there really is nothing stuck down there.

There should be like a little tube down there. make sure it is all clean. Every once in a while ours gets clogged with grease. I pour boiling water down there. Put it a back together and run it empty on hot..

The other thing is to make sure that if you have a garbage disposal, that it is also all cleaned out and not plugged up. Again you can pour really hot water down there with it is running..

Hope it is something easy!

Do you have a disposal in the sink and is it working properly?

We had the same problem! The dishes weren't getting cleaned! I handwashed them for a long time. If your husband is OOT, I recommend calling a dishwasher repair person. We ended up replacing a part, like the electric motor or something. My husband did a Google search for our problem with the model and found the solution online. Good luck!

we had this problem with our dishwasher and my hubby was able to figure it out. Ours hooks up to the disposal and there is a little airater cap thing on the top of our sink that makes noise and sometimes water drains out of it. not totally necessary from we know, but it was there when we moved in. Anyway, he found that there were some sunflower seed shells trapped in the tubing from the dishwasher to the disposal. It was way up high in the tube. Once cleaned out and tube replaced the dishwasher worked fine. My sister had a similar problem but a plumber could not fix it and a new dish washer was in order. If hubby is gone, I would try calling a handyman/woman to come fix it if you don't want to tackle yourself. Good luck!

If you suspect that the disposal / sink may be part of the problem, try dumping a bunch of baking soda and then pour vinegar down, follow by really hot water.... Hopefully it's something that'll resolve quickly. Call your husband and ask? If it were me, I'd probably handwash the dishes till he got home (if it's just for a few more days, not a few more weeks ha)

If you have taken the bootom apart as Laurie has suggested and it still doesn't drain properly, it may be a maore serious issue with the pump. If that's the problem...sorry. :-( Good luck, hopefully it's just an easy fix.

There's a filter that goes through the main drain hose. There may be a food particle stuck in it. Google the model number and get the manual or installation manual.
