Diaper Genie Is STINKY!

Hiya, mamas! My Diaper Genie is soooo stinky & since the baby shares our room...ewwww! I've tried: white vinegar, bleach, comet cleanser, and Gold Bond Powder (NOT ALL AT THE SAME TIME) - but these solutions are short lived, as it stinks again within a few days. Mind you, it only stinks when we OPEN it to put in a poopy diaper (we just put the potty diapers in the regular trash, since it gets emptied every day anyway), so the smell is NOT leaking out when it is closed...but when it gets opened, the entire room will smell like a dirty diaper for a couple HOURS! Any suggestions? Or do we just have to deal w/it?

What can I do next?

We just take the poopy ones right out to the trash!! We got sick of the stinky aroma! Life is much sweeter smelling now!

We completely stopped using any of those devices, now the poop diaper goes straight in the outside trashbin. The pee diapers go in our regular trash just like you do in your house. But taking the diaper straight outside solved the problem. I don't think there's anything one can do to eliminate that smell from the diaper genies or others of these bins.

Hi, K.,

I have a few questions:
1. Are you dumping the poop into the toilet before you dump the diaper into the Genie? (I do because dumping the poop in the toilet is better than dumping the poop still in the diaper into a landfill.) If not, try this.
2. How often do you dump your Genie? I dump my container daily.
3. Are you averse to putting the Genie in your bathroom? I put my container there.

Sincerely,
Lynne E

Hi K.: What we do is wrap the diaper in a plastic grocery bag, tie it and then we put it in the diaper genie. Then when my daughter empties it out, she sprays with Lysol. Its seems to work pretty good.

Hope it works!

try putting it in a plastic bag first... and also, what i found works, throw a few sheets of Bounce (you know, those things you dry your clothes with) in there.. it'll give it a better smell.. but bags work...

sorry, but the Diaper Genie STINKS!!!!! they don't work. for me, it smelled while it was closed and open. after a year of putting up with the smell, we just decided to toss it. now we just take our poopy diapers right outside.

We used the diaper champ UNTIL our son started eating solid foods and then WOW, the order changed big time, as you know. So, we would put it immediately into a plastic grocery bag, tie it off and hang it on the front door until the next time we went out (or take it immediately out).

Good luck,
J.

It might be too late to get the odor out but you may want to try Simple Green. I made it a habit to never put dirty diapers in the genie, only the ones that were wet. I take the poopy diapers and put it in a platic bag and throw it away outside. I have never had a stinky issue. I hope this helps.

Are you sure that you are buying the proper liner?
Some people have trouble because they don't use these.

I don't have the Diaper Genie - I have the Champ. BUT, what I do after each time I empty it out is I spray it with Lysol, and we've never had an odor problem. Maybe try that?

Good luck!

We just moved our diaper pail into the bathroom. We did what we could to remove the smell and decided moving it was the best thing we could do.
