My son needs some dental work on 2 bottom teeth. They are saying he needs what is called:
Resin composite-1s posterior
Therapeutic pulpotomy(exc rest)
have any of your kids have had this done and what do you recommend I do get the laughing gas or oral sedation?
pulpotomy is a root canal.
at his age.. they often do a tiny bit of oral medicine.. cause even the gas scares them -- just make suer the dentist is used to working on very young children.
my 4 yr old was given the oral sedation 6 months ago to put a cap on one of his top teeth.
My 3 yr old daughter will be going in on the 29th to have a tooth rebuilt that the enamel never grew on it and is broke. She also will have the oral sedation.
At first its kind of scary/ uneasy for me because he seemed drunk. But he did very good with it and he doesn't remember a thing and still looks forward to going to the dentist..imo that is a great thing!

Depends on his age, his comfort with having the dentist in his mouth and the length of the procedure. My son was just under 2 when he needed work done in his mouth (due to night nursing) and he would not have tolerated being conscious during this procedure very well. He was very young, however, and an older child would most likely tolerate it much better.
Although I was extremely nervous about the anesthesia - in hindsight I can say it was much easier - expensive, but easier.
Let him be knocked out. He will appreciate it later when he wakes up and does not remember a single thing about it.
