I have only been in Memphis for two months. My fiance' is in the Navy and is stationed here in Millington. I have been interviewing for a job here and will be starting the job in the next few weeks. Unfortunately I have already been through two daycares for my 8 month old! The first daycare was on the base in Millington. Three out of the four days that my daughter was there she fell on her face and came home with huge lumps on her head. When this was brought to the facilities manager she told me there was nothing that they could do, "they just can't take as good of care of her as I would." To me that is insane. I just want somewhere I can feel comfortable leaving my daughter! The second daycare was in a church and when I went to pick her up I heard her teacher yelling at one of the other children to lay down and stop being a brat...This is an 8 month old child!!! My daughter came home from the daycare with Black socks from the floor being filthy, and she smelled like body odor! I am at such a loss about what to do! Please Help!!

What can I do next?

I,VE WORKED IN BARTLETT THE LAST TWO YEARS. ONE CENTER THAT THE PARENTS AT THE HEAD START I WORKED FOR USED KINDER CARE OFF OF ELMORE OR THE ONE RIGHT NEXT TO JJ SHAVED ICE. I KNOW THAT THE SHAVED ICE PLACE HAS CLOSED BUT, IT;S OFF OF BARTLETT BLVD. I ALSO HEARD THAT CENTRAL CHRUCH (STRAIGHT DOWN BARTLETT BLVD) HAS A NICE CENTER. SINCE, I DO HAVE A LITTLE KNOWLEDGE, I WOULD RECOMMED THAT WHAT EVER YOU DO MAKE SURE THAT THE CLASS ROOM RATIO IS 4 KIDS TO 1 TEACHER (4:1) SINCE YOUR CHILD IS NOT ONE YET. THAT WAY YOUR CHILD CAN RECIEVE THE CARE SHE NEEDS.
I HAD MY SON IN A HOME DAY CARE IN THAT AREA, BUT, HE NEEDED TO BE IN SOME TYPE OF LEARNING ENVIROMENT, SO I MOVED HIM OUT. HE IS DOING GREAT, HE CAN EVEN WALK KNOW (HE STARTED AT 9 MONTHS). I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK.
*AND THINGS CAN BE DONE ABOUT STAFF LETTING CHILDREN OR LETTING YOUR CHILD HIT HER HEAD WHERE A KNOT IS PRESENT.(I KNOW I DEAL WITH THOSE ISSUES ALL DAY AT HEAD START WITH 3-5 YEAR OLDS)

i live in arlington. i don't know which way you will be driving to work, but my daughter went to lil tykes schoolhouse on hwy 70 in arlington for a while and we had no problems. we really liked it. she started at 12 months old 2 days a week and really enjoyed it. also, they were the only daycare i could find who did part time which is all we needed. it was $32.50/day, but it's worth knowing they're getting good care. good luck!

It will prob be hard to get into one in Millington. They are only allowed to have 4 babies for every one person (sometimes 5 depending on ages). So most places have waitin list for the infant room. You could try Millington Child Development Center. It is located on Cuba Millington behind Magnolia Inn. They are usually full but it's worth a try. I would call in the afternoon about 4 or a little b4. Or just stop in and ask if you can take a tour. Everyone is very nice! Well best of luck.

I don't know from first hand experience, but I have heard that Bartlett Baptist has a good Moms-Day-Out program. The other two sound absolutely unacceptable for your 8 month old. Keep looking and asking around. There is a good moms group called "moms4moms" where a lot of women in Bartlett/Millington live as well as throughout the greater Memphis area...especially good for women who've just moved to the area: www.moms4moms.net..Good luck!
