Daughters Birthday Party - West Jordan,UT

I was planning on buying pizza toppings and some powdered sugar to make frosting for my daughters birthday party tomorrow. Unfortunately, our paycheck was much less than I was expecting and now that is out of the question. I indicated we would be feeding the munchins that came to the party so what do I do now. The girls are 7.
ETA: no Aldi store. I do have some cake mix that I will make cupcakes with and we do already have ice cream. I have some stuff for sale on Craigslist and a local on line classified ad but no takers. Thanks to those who have answered already. I appreciate the inspiration. I have a crockpot, beans and spices. Chili and fry bread should work right?

What can I do next?

Do you have an Aldi store? You might still be able to get what you were planning on. Frozen "Totino's" style pizzas are cheap, or hot-dogs. Cake mix is about $1, and a small tub of icing is about that much. Also, consider buying some popcorn and popping it on the stove. Melt some butter and season with table salt. Add a pitcher of Kool-Aid and you've got a party.

I think you can do this. Just be inventive.

Pizza toppings and powdered sugar should cost less than $20. I would first check into why your paycheck was so much less than expected. If you or hubby worked the same number of hours as usual, something is not right.

Kids would be happy with cheese pizza and you can go to a Dollar Store and buy sprinkles for $1 each. Get 2-3 colors.

Can you sell something on Craigslist? Something that will go fast if you price it right?

If you have powdered sugar, you can make your own frosting.

For white frosting, put some powdered sugar in a bowl, add an egg white, a dash of vanilla, then a little water at a time until you get the "frosting" to the consistency you want (either thick or runny or in between). Taste to make sure you like the taste (need to add a little more vanilla? Maybe more powdered sugar?)

For chocolate frosting, the recipe is just as simple. Put some powdered sugar in a bowl, add an entire egg (need the egg yolk to help turn it dark), a dash of vanilla, then cocoa powder little by little until you get the "taste" you want, and water bit by bit until you get the frosting texture you want. Too much cocoa, and you'll get a more bitter chocolate flavor.

This is the "old-fashioned" way my mom used to make frosting. I actually like this type of frosting the best. If you need precise measurements, check the Internet for recipes for homemade frosting.

cool whip makes great frosting. and hot dogs and buns are fine for food. I would not make chili. most 7 year olds are not really chili eaters. but you could do a breakfast for dinner type thing. make some scrambled eggs or pancakes

drop the price on your sale items.

sometimes churches will give you money if you are desparate enough, not sure i would beg just for bday items.

so you need cheese and sauce and powdered sugar, or cheese and sauce and a can of frosting. around here that would be less than $10.

hmm I might return a gift before i served cupcakesw no frosting or no cupcakes at all. is that an option?

huh, I'm stumped, if i have any great ideas i'll repost.

Do you have a friend or family member who can loan you a box of powdered sugar? That would at least help with the frosting and you could replace the box for them next time you get paid.

Chili and bread sounds good if you have that stuff at home and can do it at no cost. Otherwise, I'd go for a place that offers $5 pizzas, like pizza hut. Girls that age likely will only eat one piece.

If you were expecting a bigger check, is it possible that there was a problem with it? Maybe you are owed more money that you didn't receive. I'd call the boss or recheck the numbers somehow.
