So What Happened?

We did the party at the Gaylord Texan... $220 included parking, fees, and breakfast for 4 (but we had a few more than that so we had to pay a bit extra).

It was a good deal. The pool time was lovely, walking around doing a scavenger hunt was great fun. The final dinner/food ended up being appetizers at Esparza's (which was just over $45) and cold cuts and rolls in the room for a late night snack (we brought the stuff with us and each room has a fridge so it was easy).

The cake was a big issue.... and we never really came up with "the perfect" cake. But I did make her Margarita Cupcakes and Raspberry filled Chocolate Cupcakes that I got tips for making of Wilton on line.

The party favor was the cutest... Sandra Lee semi-homemade cake cone dipped in white chocolate, rolled in sprinkles and filled with lollipops, licorice, sugar straws.

You can use fondant on cupcakes. You can buy premade fondant anywhere they sell Wilton cake supplies (even Walmart carries this). Then, you can roll out the fondant and use cookie cutters to cut out shapes to make the theme (like flowers of various sizes or the numbers 1 & 6 for her 16th birthday). If you want to color the white fondant, you have to use cake colors, which are different from regular food colors. Some places carry pre-colored fondant. Once you've got your fondant shapes, let them air dry for 24 hours and then you can stand them up in the frosting of the cupcakes. Or, if you don't want to try them out, you can drape the shapes over the top of the cupcakes with a thin layer of frosting to hold it in place. Cake central is definitely a good source for ideas.

Here are a few ideas :

This is so good. I make it for work, the kids, etc.

Cheesecake Ball Recipe _ You can make this really pretty!

1- 8oz pkg Cream Cheese, softened
1- Stick Real Butter, softened
3/4 Cup Powdered Sugar
4Tbsp Brown Sugar
1/2 tsp Vanilla
1/2 Bag mini choc chips
Pecans to taste

Cream together cream cheese, butter, vanilla. Add sugars stir well.
Mix in choc chips and pecans. Chill for 1 hr

You can make this into a ball.

They say get graham cracker sticks to go with this and it is really good!

Also what about purchasing a small fondue set and have fruits, and nuts out for the teens.

Nachos- 1lb of turkey or ground meat, velveeta cheese and 2 cans of rotel. Brown meet and cube cheese in a crock pot or reg pot on medium on the stove pour in rotel. Once the meat is done put meat in which will help with the melting of the cheese. Easy and very good. I use the tosito scoops for nachos.

Also you can make your own pizza bites. I use two boxes of jiffy pizza mix, i cup of water. Follow directions on back of box. Two boxes will make a cookie sheet long pizza. 1 jar a pizza sauce by ragu, 1 bag of mozzarella. You can use any topping you want. Pop in oven for about 12 minutes and cut in small squares and use decorative toothpicks and place on a nice trays. I would try the 99 cents stores for trays. You can get almost any color.

Also I always like to do a favor, something the kids can take with them. You could do candy bars and make candy wrappers that say Thanks for coming to my sweet 16th birthday party with a nice pic of her etc.

Hope this helps.

I have had a part-time party business for over tens years and here are a few ideas.

Cupcakes are definately easy
*using pre-made foundant is easy to work with and you can knead food coloring into it to change colors. ( Make sure you wear latex gloves to keep from getting coloring on your hands) Use cookie cutter for floral shapes or a knief.

*You could make green icing, melt it and dip your cupcakes into it and add silk orchids. Then place them in a circle to look like a lei.

Food Ideas...
* cut ham into strips, cheese cubes, grapes, pineapple cubes
Place them on a tooth pick with a floral top and push into a pineapple until the entire pineapple is covered. It is a great centerpiece.

* Dipped strawberries in chocolate- then dip them in a variety of extras... coconut, chopped pecans, sprinkles

* Veggie tray - in the middle instead of a bowl of dip- buy a round loaf of bread un cut. Then cut out the center without going all of the way through. (like a bowl). Pour the dip into the bread bowl and place veggies around.

* Mini burgers are great too.

I have a new family fun community magazine coming out in early 2009. 50% from every subscription goes to local youth organizations. Party Like A Pro- with How To's will be a part of it. CHeck it out.
