My daughter will be 10 in March and we have noticed her hair has become increasingly oily. I know it's probably due to hormones etc. What kids products would you recommend that are good for oily hair? Also, she constantly has static hair; what can she/we do to help it?

Thanks Mamas...

What can I do next?

Sounds like it's time to make the switch to regular products. My daughter is 8 and I had to switch about a year ago, mostly because the kids products just stopped working on the tangles as her hair got longer.

We use Dove shampoo and conditioner. Look for products that address oily hair.

She's 10. I would stop using "kid" products. I would try products like Dove on her.

Static hair? Check the humidity level in your home. Also make sure she is using "conditioner" in her hair every other day..

It's very possible it's hormones. My oldest granddaughter started her periods at 10 and the next one started at 9 1/2.

My guess is she has an oily scalp and dry hair. If you are using baby shampoo it's very drying on the hair. When we use products that dry out the hair the scalp works extra hard to provide protection to the hair making the scalp oily.
I recommend using a good adult shampoo and conditioner. Then a leave in conditioner on the hair only. Paul Mitchell makes a really good one, it's blue, and you only need a little bit about the size of a pea, in the palm of your hand. Then rub together and put in hair only do not rub into scalp. Also limit blow drying and electric straighteners or curling irons. Letting hair air dry is the best. You can also braid her hair when damp to get some wave in it.

It's time to use adult shampoos that say "clarifying." That's what I had to start doing for my eldest daughter for the same reason. I had to teach her to wash only at the scalp and not through to the ends because when she rinses, the soap goes all the way through anyway. During the day I make sure she brushes her hair with a bristle brush (boar's hair) a couple of times to help distribute her hair's natural oils. I also let her skip a day of showering on weekends if we don't have anywhere to go. If her hair gets static, then she gets a very small amount of conditioner on the ends of her hair only.

My middle daughter has been having to use adult shampoo and conditioner for even longer than my eldest because her hair is very long, curly/wavy and very thick and heavy. She's had adult-like hair for a long time, so I need to treat it like adult hair. My hair is curly so I just use my products on her. Everything is extra moisturizing.

My youngest is only 7, and she uses a simple and basic adult shampoo and conditioner that's moisturizing because her hair is pin straight and very long.

My kid is six and she's been using adult (Suave) shampoo and conditioner for about two years now, mostly due to the expense. Suave is just leaps and bounds cheaper. Once a few years ago when I was out of shampoo and my kid was still using baby products, I used some of her johnson & johnson yellow no tears stuff on my hair and it didn't feel like I washed it when I was done.

I don't think that "mild for the eyes" kid stuff actually had the power to remove the oils of someone moving into pre-pubescence. Time to upgrade to grown person products!

She should be using adult shampoo. She's 10 and has issues with her hair, no kid shampoo will address that. Try clarifying shampoos or shampoos that address oiliness. You may have to try a few before you find the right one so be prepared for that.

I stopped using kids products with my daughter around 8 or so.

My daughter is 12 and uses Hello Hydration! I think it's by Herbal Essance. Also, you can use leave in conditioner for the static... but make sure she doesn't put too much in or her hair will be gunky.

Also - I alternate using Suave Clarifying shampoo in between my bed head products. I think that helps as well.

When my oldest dd started to get oily hair, I was told to have her use tea tree oil. I already had a bottle of the essential oil from when my girls got lice so I just had my dd add a drop or two of the tea tree oil to her shampoo. She added it for a few days in a row then went to one or two days a week. If you don't want her to have to add the oil to her shampoo then you can buy shampoos that already have tea tree oil in them. You can have her alternate the tea tree shampoo with regular shampoo. An added benefit of tea tree oil is that it will help keep lice at bay if she is ever exposed.

For the static-y hair, increase the humidity in your house. If that doesn't help, she could put a small amount of conditioner on the ends of her hair and do a quick rinse so that some of the conditioner remains on the ends. Definitely have her stay away from conditioning her scalp since she has oily hair.
