My daughter started having a headache and sore throat with fever Wednesday. We are supposed to leave for a 4 day trip on Saturday. We have to let the hotel know if we are canceling by Friday at 6pm. Should I cancel or hope for her to feel better? We will be visiting Silver Dollar City and White Water in Branson on our trip.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I took her to the doctor on Friday and she tested negative for Strep. I wanted to give her Friday night and Saturday night to rest in her own bed. So we are leaving Sunday for our trip and she is feeling better! We will come home Wednesday instead of Tuesday so it all will work out. Thanks for your responses, it helped to have some other Mom's oppinions!

That sound a lot like strep. We have recently had it in our family and my in-laws get it a lot too so I am somewhat familar with it. I would take her to a clinic tomorrow and have it checked. With strep, the sooner you catch it the better and once she has been on antiboitics for 24 hours she should be ok. If it is not strep, at least you will have a better idea of what you are dealing with. If you can't get into your doctor, you can always take her to Walgreens or CVS clinics. We do this all the time and they are MUCH better then urgent care. They will bill your insurance just like your doctor.

I'll third the CVS/Walgreens idea. We have had very good results from both of these clinics.

Hope she feels better soon, and if you go, have a wonderful trip!

I would cancel. My daughter had the headache start Wednesday night. I took her to the doctor Thursday, and she has strep throat. Your daughter has the same signs for strep, so beware.. My daughter is still a mess this morning and she's 10. I can't imagine taking her on a trip tomorrow to a fun place like Silver Dollar City, which I know she'd love. Good luck with your decision.

If she's still sick tomorrow (Friday) I would definitely cancel, especially if she still has a fever. She needs her rest. She'll just be miserable the whole trip, and being busy with Silver Dollar City and everything might exhaust her so much she'll feel worse.

Do you know what she has? Is it just a cold?

Take her to the doctor, if she has a virus she will get an antibiotic and will feel a lot better in 2 days of taking it. She may feel sick on the way and when you get there but will probably feel better in a day or 2 and be able to enjoy the rest of your trip. Take a bucket for the trip, with her not feeling well already, she may get sick when you get close to Branson in those hills. I get very car sick everytime we go to Branson so usually don't feel well when we get there and have to sleep off the nausea and headache I get on the way down there.

i S. the walgreens/cvs clinic idea. of course, by today you might have your answer depending on how she's feeling. but they can prescribe an antibiotic for her if she needs it. and i also agree that after these couple days she ought to be pretty much over whatever it is. good luck!

Can you get her in quick and get her an antibiotic? It's really still 2 days away. If it were me, I'd keep her in bed as much as possible or laying around watcing tv and load her down with orange juice until she's floating away. In my experience with my 4 daughters, 3 days has been enough to overcome nearly everything. The only time I saw my daughter sick longer was when they were teenagers and had Mono.
