Curious Bedtime Routine

My 13 month old daughter for the past week has been tightening her body: straightens her legs, toes stretch out, arches her back, strains as if she is trying to poop but nothing comes out. She does this everytime she falls asleep and it scares me. The first two days she had loose BM, then no BM, then semisolid the next days after. There is no blood in her pampers when she does a bm. She is drinking the 16 oz of milk, 6 oz of juice, abit of extra juice, and some water. She has been eating table food, not too much bananas, but some peas, loves to eat oranges, grapes, pears, grapefruit. To don't know what to think, I have tried looking for why she is doing this but found nothing soooo I'm looking to other mom's for help. I've asked some friends and family what they think and they say to take her to the doctor. Thank you for your help.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I also thought it might be just her stretching but she never fid it before a week ago. I forgot to put in that she will turn red from the straining or even cry sometimes. I wish I can upload a video to show what she does, so readers can see it.

Thank you soouch for the responses it does help to Hear from other parents.
She does eat her veggies: carrots, peas, greenbeans, potatoes, she also eats her meats;chicken, beef, n fish. At first I thought she might have been constipated that's why I put the BM info. When she does the straining I try to massage her legs but she gets mad and starts all over, all I can do is rub her back and/or hug her trying to consul her to let her know I'm there for her till she falls asleep.

Are you sure she is not just stretching her body and not trying to poop? I get in bed and stretch my body toes curled back arched and all too. Maybe I am not reading it correctly but my impression is not a struggle.

Welcome to Mamapedia. Excellent first question!

a) our ped said no juice for the first 2 years - said it's all risk, no reward

b) I'm not seeing the connection between her sleep routine and BM. I understand her straining, and I understand it's similar. But I don't see any other connection between the two.

Have you tried giving her a little massage when she does that?

I don't think it sounds like the two are related, just coincidental. I really does sound like she's stretching. They way you describe it, there's no way that is a position a child would try to get into in order to poop.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's important to notice the consistency of their poop, but it's also normal for them to have loose stools once in awhile and slightly more solid ones once in awhile. As long as they don't last too long, don't worry too much.

She's fine.

A couple of things to note: that seems like a LOT of fruit to me. Where are the veggies or meats? I know anytime we've given our kids too much fruit and not a more balanced diet, it seems like they always had gas, reflux, diarrhea. Fruit is good... just make it more balanced.

Second, I would definitely try to run it by a doctor. The straining and crying would definitely cause me some concern.

Hope this helps! And welcome to mamapedia!
