Crockpot Recipe Sounds GROSS... But..

This is the recipe:
2-3 lbs short ribs
1 large can sauerkraut
4-5 large potatos/cut into large pieces
salt and pepper.
That's it. I like all those things, but it just didn't sound very tasty. Well, 5 hrs later in the crockpot, VERY tasty!
Anyone ever cook something anyway, and ended up surprised?

That sounds pretty good J.. I will definitely try that. I'm w/Luna on the little smokies....for my daughter's (1st graders) class Halloween party I made the smokies using the same chili, jelly concoction told the kids they were bloody toes...between the kids & parents there was not a single bloody toe left in the crockpot. I used three packages of smokies. The kids & parents loved them.

Yes. Little smokies wienies.

1 pkg little smokies
1 jar Heinz chili sauce or a bottle of ketchup
1/2 jar grape jelly
Crockpot on low for 2-3 hours

Every person I asked and tons of recipe reviews swore by it. I thought it would be trash, but they were a big hit. We've made them a few times for parties, and I've never come home with any left!

Oh man, I LOVE my crockpot. When I'm feeling particularly lazy, I will just throw a bunch of stuff in the crockpot and see how it turns out. I haven't been disappointed, yet :)

My latest favorite crockpot recipe:

a 2 to 4 lb roast
one 16 oz jar of pepperoncini

That's it. Cook in a crockpot for 6 hours or so. Yummy! for sandwiches and nachos.

I've made it and it rocks!

The recipes with jelly and meat gross me out, but they're actually really good too!

We use Keilbasa or polish sausage in our house! It does ROCK! ad pepper and mustard.

Just tried the short ribs-sauerkraut-potato thing. It was good.

I'm still getting ahold of how "much" salt to use, so it's probably my fault, but it was a little bland. We were thinking of trying to add mustard, or honey, or bbq sauce, or something to liven in up.

Other than that - delicious!

You made me laugh, I JUST sat down after putting something in the crock pot now (at 4pm) to use for lunch tomorrow.

My husband was a big crock pot skeptic but has come to LOVE most recipes we've made. He teases me about "not cooking a REAL home cooked meal" because I get to throw it all in and walk away. LOL

Last night, I took a family size box of Velveeta shells and cheese, cooked the macaroni, browned a lb. of ground beef (on it's last refrigerated day), 2 c. salsa and 2 T. milk and added all that together and dumped the cheese sauce from Velveeta on top.

At first it looked gross: the salsa, milk and cheese sauce looked horrible sitting on top of the beef. But stirred it all together and served it anyway! My teen age boys said it was great!!! Way better than hamburger helper they said. There were 0 left-overs.

Do you drain and rise the sauerkraut?
