Confirmation Sponsor Gift?

My older son will be making his Confirmation in early May. He's chosen the father of a close friend to be his sponsor. We were communicating dates (for rehearsal, etc.) last night and it dawned on me...should we buy him a gift as a "thank you"? I asked my Mom this morning if she remembered buying a gift for my sponsor and/or my brother's sponsor (both were family members) and she doesn't recall. What do you think? Gift or no gift? (I'm sure my son's sponsor wouldn't EXPECT a gift, but wondering if it would be a nice gesture...or completely unnecessary??)

What can I do next?

I think it would be nice, but then again, I don't have any really good advice on the perfect gift! ;) I think if you haven't planned any sort of brunch, reception, whatever, then maybe just plan something for your family and the sponsor. Other than that maybe I'd donate money to the church (or his church if it's different) in his name as a thank you for being your son's sponsor.

no I wouldn't, but rather than a gift maybe a nicely framed pic of him and the boy together.

My daughter chose 1 of my HS friends as her sponsor.

I bought her a necklace and picked out a religious thank you card.

Then, we invited my friend for dinner at our house.

I baptized my cousins daughter and did not receive a gift, in which it was totally okay.

My friend is baptizing my daughter and I plan to gift her with a small wedding album. She is con-validating her vows this weekend. I will be shooting the ceremony and will probably make a small album for her.

No big deal. I have the means to do it and can afford it, otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it. I am grateful she is baptizing my daughter, who will be 7 in October. I no longer have family (Catholic) fit to baptize her.

We invited my son's confirmation sponsor and her husband to his confirmation dinner after the service and gave her a nice gift (a collectable we knew she liked) and card.

My sister was my sponsor and I think i bought her a keychain or other small thing. I think it is up to the person, maybe something jsut ot commemorate the occasion.
