there are 4 teachers cared my daughter during the year... 2 teachers in her clase normally, but she went from 1 grade to another (like all other kids)... what's the normal practice on Christmas gift? would we send gifts to all 4 teachers, (her time with the teachers ranged from 1 month to 8 months), or just the 2 that she is with now? thanks

What can I do next?

I used to do a gift box of individually wrapped candies addressed to all of the teachers (ie for their lounge) and then 2 gift cards of $10-15 for the current teachers.

It really is a judgement call. I guess for me it would depend on how long ago she had the other teachers. Afterall, a 2nd grader did have the 1st grade teacher earlier in the year, but you wouldn't give the 1st grade teacher a Christmas gift. But if they were her teachers in November, you probably would.

Keep in mind, you don't have to break the bank. You could give the former teachers $5 gift cards to McDonalds and give her current teachers a little something more.

When I was in this position, I just gave gifts to the teachers that my son had at the current time.

Gift cards really are a fantastic way to go. Having been in child care, they are appreciated. I used to give Walmart or Target gift cards. The one store that I've found that every teacher loves is Half Price Books. They all seem to shop there.

It is really up to you. Probably just the two she is with now if you are trying to save some money. If you need any ideas.....nothing sweet!!!!! I'm a teacher and, although I appreciate the time and effort that the moms went through to make things, I don't ever want to see another cookie or piece of fudge in my life. Last year, I made salsa for my daughter's teachers and I would have only been to happy to get that in return. Other faves-insulated mug with my initial on it, Starbucks giftcard, reusuable (and microwavable) coffee cup (the one that looks like a starbucks cup). If you do want to give the other two something, a little pack of travel tissues with an ornament tied on it is fun but cheap.

I tend to give gifts to those teachers who I feel have made a significant impact on my child's life. If the teacher(s) that she had for only 1 month were OK, but not someone who blew your socks away, I would give them a nominal gift. I like the previous suggestion of a McDonalds gift card for $5.00. You could give a higher dollar amount to the teachers who have worked with your child longer. It would really depend on your budget and financial means. I gave the teachers gift cards to Target this year and they were all really appreciative. Good luck!

I am a teacher, and the gifts I appreciated the most were gift cards (even something as small as $5) and things that were homemade by the child (like a homemade bookmark or card). Of course, it's always the thought that counts, but please keep in mind that some of us are allergic to perfumes and/or certain foods. (I've gotten countless soaps, candles, and lotions which I'm allergic to, and my friend has gotten countless candies she is allergic to!) I especially loved when I received a gift card to Barnes & Noble or Target. (Although, unlike the poster below, I disagree that all teachers love Half Price Books. I do not, and many others I know do not.) But again, it's the thought that counts.
