Hello Ladies,

We have a wonderful full-time nanny for my 2yr old and 4 month old. My questions is, what do other families who have a full time nanny give in bonus at Christmas to their nanny? This is the first year we have a nanny during Christmas and I want to make sure we are being fair during the holiday's.

What can I do next?

I think if you can afford it, one week's salary is extremely generous. If you can't afford it, just give what you can.

We have a full-time nanny, and I can't afford to give her an extra week's pay. I'm giving her 2 weeks off at the end of December (which she still gets paid for), and I'm considering that her 'bonus'. If I can, I'll probably give her $100 to $200 on top of that. I'm also planning to have my boys pick something fun out for her at the store (nothing expensive) and do some kind of crafty project we can give her.

The best gift I received as a nanny was having the week of Christmas off (paid) along with one week's salary as my bonus! I thought this was an extremely generous gift and I was so thankful.

I don't have a nanny, but I would think that if she has been doing a good job and you enjoy having her then give her a bonus that shows her that. Maybe something like 2% of whatever her annual wage is.

Good luck!

Hi S.! I was a professional nanny for over 10 years, and my employers always gave me a weeks salary, an outfit, and a house type gift (I did not live in). They were very generous people, and the $ would have been more than enough. I felt appreciated then, and still do now, even though the kids are all grown and I have my own family. Your children are your most precious asset, and if you have found "the one" for a caregiver, she should be acknowledged, and a Christmas bonus is wonderful!

We give one week's salary, a nice card and another small thing like chocolates.
