Child Care in Allen - Need Advice

Hi everyone! I live in Lost Creek Ranch in Allen and am looking for some child care advice. My son attended a day care in Allen that was not a pleasant experience. He then moved to Creme de la Creme which was really wonderful. It got too expensive though and I had to pull him out about 6 weeks ago...His grandmother has been watching him in the interim but I really need to find another alternative. I cannot seem to find any child care facility or in home daycare that hasn't had any serious violations reported. Can anyone recommend a daycare or in home day care in the Allen area?

My son is 2.5 and is a sweet little boy. He is a really easy going kid. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you!

So What Happened?

I cant figure out how to add a reply to my own thread so hopefully this will work. The daycare I was not happy with was Children's Lighthouse. Others may have positive experiences but I did not.

Thank you for all your messages and advice! It has been helpful.

I'm the mom of a 12 week old boy, also live in Allen, & am looking for infant care myself. Had my daughter at Kindercare a few years ago, but promptly pulled her due to some bad experiences. Am looking at The Peanut Gallery now...any advice from other moms out there?

What childcare facility did you use? I have looked at Primrose in West Allen. I am going to start my 14-month-old there in August. The owner is an assistant principal in McKinney. I have visited it twice at different times of the day and have been impresses with the place.

I know this isn't a place to slam businesses, but if you had a really bad experience with a child care facility, I think we'd all like to know who it was so we don't send our kids there. I think that is an appropriate request for this type of forum since this is the type of information we're all looking for.

Thanks for any information you can share with us.

M.,

As an assistant director at a childcare facility, I'm here to tell you it's near impossible to find a childcare center that has no reports on them. However, FYI, not all reports are warranted nor are violations always found. It has been my experience, and I've been in the field for 7 years, that an angry parent will get malicious and report a center to State just to be mean. That has been the case with my school recently and when the matter was investigated, there was nothing to report and no violation. There are things beyond our control sometimes and just to be hateful, someone will try to ruin your good name. Fortunately for me, my school is run on truth and integrity and there are never violations found. Just make sure the report says that the school was in compliance. Keep in mind when you are looking for a center for your son, your gut often tells you more than a report. Trust your instincts.

Hi M.,

I have an inhome day care. I would be glad to take care of your little boy. I have a daughter that turned 2 in March. It sounds like they are very close in age. I also take care of a little boy-16mo PT, boy-18mo FT, and a girl-2 1/2 yrs PT. I live in McKinney about 10 mins away from you. I use to live at Exchange and Allen Heights. Our house got too small with the other kids coming over so we built a new home in Mckinney and now we have a big playroom just for the kids. We live close to McKinney Ranch and Ridge Rd. I have been watching children in my home since March 05. Before that I worked at a day care center so I could be close to my daughter. There were too many things I did not like about that. My husband and I decided to open our home to other families and offer them a safe and fun place for their child to play. I have been working with children since the days of babysitting. Children are so precious to me. It is an honor to get to take care of them.
I am CPR and first aid certified and am listed with the state to provide in home child care. I do have an opening and could start as soon as you are ready. Let me know if you are interested. I would be glad to have you over to meet with me and see our play room.

Thank you,

M.

Hi M.,

I checked out about 15 child care places last year before putting my child in an MDO program. I am SAHM, so all I needed was part-time.

I know where you live (have a friend there), but which facility in Allen did you have the bad experience? Yes, I checked out Creme de la Creme, very impressive school, but not what I wanted in a part-time program for my 18 month old. My son just turned 3, so I may go back and checked them out again. I also check on the Peanut gallery, Kinder-Care, The Children's Lighthouse, and several Plano schools too. I really did not want him in a home-day in service simply for the fact that he needs a structured environment and friends to socialize with that are his age, not a flurry of babies and older kids.

Email me at ____@____.com if you want further info.

Thanks and good luck!!

The Primrose School of West Allen is a great alternative. It is very similar to Creme de la Creme, but may be a little less expensive. Visit www.primroseschools.com for more info. Good luck!
