I have runners knee (condition which pulls my knee cap off track and damages the cartilage). I've given up running for good, which I loved! Now Dr. says no more squats unless I want a knee replacement when I'm older. I just started Jillian Micheals 30 day shed and love it! Makes me work so hard and the work outs are only 20 min which is doable with two babies. However, there are lots of squats in it. Any one have a great work out DVD that makes you burn thats gentle on the knees?

What can I do next?

Can you do swimming?

I was a runner too and cross country.
My knees got punished.

Or, perhaps see a physical therapist. They can properly address your knee issue and recommend proper exercises for it and what you can/should not do.

OR, you can do exercises, while laying down on your back. So no weighted pressure is on your knees.
Think of different ways, you can vary the exercises.

Pilates is awesome :) Also Leslie Sansone Walk Away The Pounds. No squats.

I second the swimming when possible, but that's not always something us mom's can do.
I like my Denise Richards Pilates. I only do the first 20 minutes because that's all my mind (I am like a squirrel that way. I get bored then focus on the next "shiney") can handle. I get an amazing workout.

Try doing side leg lifts or toy soldiers in place of the squats...or knee ups. Do these during that section of the work out. Most workouts are going to include some form of squats but you can always alter the workout to your own preferences.
