Carpet Cleaning with Asthma

My 3YO daughter was recently diagnosed with asthma. We need to get our carpets cleaned, but now I am worried that all the chemicals may be worse than the dirt. Does anyone know of a company that uses safer cleaning materials, hopefully cleaner that does not have a strong smell, too!

A carpet steamer. Also I have used regular laundry detergent (fragrance and dye free) along with a bit of fabric softener. Vinegar is a great option as well.
That being said... We own a flooring store and my husband says that carpets are not met to be cleaned. The water soaks through to the carpet backing and carpet pad and begins to degrade both. He will only let me clean twice a year and says thats about one time to many. Steaming is the best way to go. If you have a warranty on your carpet it could be void by the manufacturer for cleaning.
I would invest in a steamer. Haan MS30 from HD for $179. It will really help with the asthma.

Hi.
My first thought was that you should check the faan.org site to see if they have any recommendations.

Congrats on having your hubby safely home.

My daughter has allergies, and when my husband bought a rug machine to clean the carpets, we used vinegar instead of the soap provided. Vinegar is AMAZING. The carpets were so clean and lovely, and there were no harsh chemicals at all.

We own a Rug Doctor carpet shampooer and a Dyson Animal Ball vacuum. I buy the carpet shampoo at Target and it doesn't have any odor at all. We shampoo the carpets and they dry completely in an hour or two. I vacuum daily with my Dyson. I love my dyson because it gets so much more "stuff" off the floor than other vacuums and is very easy to clean. Its top rated for people with asthma and allergy problems.

i have a couple of ideals but i would have to come and look at it first. what you could use, without chemicals, depends
on several different factors . just give me a call or email me at ____@____.com or call me at ###-###-#### and i will be happy to come and look at it for you, and since your
husband is a returning combat veteran , it wont cost you anything
