Care.com - Anyone Used It for a Nanny/sitter? How Does Paying Work?

To preface - I'm sure this has been asked many times, but I searched past questions and didn't find any info on payment -

My son is 16 months old and since my husband works nights and I work from home part time, we have made it this far without daycare or sitters/nannies. But we're going a little crazy. I am thinking of having someone come once a week for maybe 4-8 hours, just depending on how it goes. I saw a commercial for care.com and signed up (just the free version) and came across some great profiles. I'm just wondering how the pay works? Does the website have anything to do with that or do you just pay the nanny/sitter as you normally would? Is the site just for finding/posting jobs for sitters/nannies? Just wondering if there's a "mark-up" rate... TIA

What can I do next?

I am registered at care.com for childcare and housekeeping. So far I've found a great family that I really enjoy cleaning for! I m still looking for another family to help out as well. When I registered I gave all my information and the have completed a background check as well. You can set up what you expect for pay, although its pretty general. Just check your area and you will get a list of all that is available and and you can look at the profile and decide from there! Just shoot a message and negotiate! Best of luck love!

I am using them now to find a sitter. You can negotiate a rate with them and theres also a box where that has the pay scale like $5-$10 per hour or $15-$20 per hour etc.

We have used them and found a great babysitter. The site has nothing to do with paying the sitter, you just pay them like you would if you found the sitter down the street. I believe the site is just for finding and posting jobs and each sitter has their own rate, so no mark up. The sitters do not have to pay to post their profiles but you have to pay if you want to get the background checks etc.

I have used care.com twice and been very happy with the ease of use as well as the quality of caregivers.

I don't find there is a "markup".

I believe the site is for sitters / nannies / pet care / elderly.

When you advance from the "free" membership, the membership fee that you pay allows you to communicate with propsective caregivers as well (I think) as seeing the background check and reference info for the candidate.

But once you communicate and decide you like someone enough to move to a more formal interview you work out the payment for their services between the two of you. I think most of the cargivers specify a "range" they will accept, but then you negotiate just like you would with any babysitter.

Hope that helps.
