C-section Recovery - Jackson,MI

I experienced something similar after my c-section. I developed a blod clot which popped my staples out and it was so bad that for the first 4 weeks I had to go to my ob/gyn's office at least once a weeks (daily for the first week) to have my incision cleaned and packed. Then, to try to help me heal faster, my ob/gyn put in three stitches (without anesthesia because he thought I had no sensation). My bruised and beat up feelings did eventually go away. I think it took me at least 4 months to feel "normal" again. It did get better though. Occassionally, I'll still have strange sensations at the site of my incision, but otherwise it's fine. I'm so sorry to hear from someone else who experienced this because I know the pain you experienced.

Wow.....it's a blessing that your daughter is fine! I have had three csections (all my babies have been breach) and am having a fourth on June 5. I've always had complication-free surgeries and still it takes me a good six weeks to start feeling "normal". And this is with a totally normal surgery. I am sure it will take you much longer. Be patient, and try to get as much help with the other kids while you rest up! That is the major trial for csection moms.....not being physically able to take care of the other kids while healing. Hang in there!

I can sympathize with you I have had a similar situation-My first c-section was with my son because after 1 1/2 hrs of pushing he didn't want to come out and it was without complication but with my daughter I had a c-section because they were only 14months apart and my son was big (9lbs 5oz) and they knew she would be big too and they didn't want my uterus to rupture but with her I had a complication as well. I had a seroma which is a blood clot that was on my incision and prevented my staples to adhere so when my doctor removed my staples in the hospital, my incision started to open up so she manually opened my incision with her hand and without pain meds( I still vividly remember the pain and it was 4yrs ago). We also had to pack the wound and do dressing changes 3x daily and it didn't completely heal so I had to have more surgery to repair and close it 3months later. It was quite an ordeal and I didn't feel back to normal for a while. It definately takes longer to recover when you have had complications. Be patient you will start to feel better, just really watch what you are lifting because that could be contributing to your discomfort. Good luck.

WOW! It sounds to me like something may have gone wrong OR maybe your body is just taking longer to heal. But, something doesn't sound right to me.

I had a planned section on march 7th and felt nothing...no pain no pressure...nothing. after the surgery i had some pain but it was pretty minimal with the exception of maybe a week of hell. BUT.....what you are experiencing doesnt sound normal to me.

have u talked to your doc about this? if you have and they say it's normal, find another.

I too had an aweful experience with delivery/c-section. I was so sick with toxemia i had swelling on my spinal cord and was seeing things move. I had constant things flying around me and thought I was losing my mind. My protein levels were off the charts and my blood pressure was the highest I've ever seen. After being sent to the hospital after a blood pressure check at dr office, I was induced (baby had not even dropped yet) so I went in and had contractions for 11 hours (not long for most) but baby was stuck at 4cen. and not dropping any more. Since my vitals too were bad, they did emergency C-section and I puked 8 times during surgery while they were wrenching on me to get him out. After the surgery was worse. I could not get up. Literally, for 1 solid week i laid there in a bed and if i had to use the bathroom, someone would have to come over to me to physically lift me. One week later I left hopital and was bauling, because everytime I moved it felt like someone was stabbing my lower left side from the inside. I had a talk with officials there because I seriously thought they may had left an instrument in. It turned out it was a larger than normal "anchor" for the inside stiches.

It took 3 months for the "inside anchor" pain to finally go away, and my belly is still numb from c-section scar down and it's been going on 5 years.

My prayers are with you on healing...just keep your eye on the prize...a healthy little girl :)

i had my c-section may 7th it is been now almost 8 weeks and still i have pain in my interior incesion, and the exterior part it is all numb, so i think it is normal, my doctor told me that it will take up to three months to be as it was, it is a major surgery and it will take time, but you have to relax as much as you can don't lift weight at aaaaaaaall. hope you will be fine

I had a C-section but none of these complications! I would definitely go for a second opinion and see another doctor very soon! You do not want to have an infection going - there are infectious desease specialists - I recommend UOM Hospital.

I also had complications from my C-Section, a small piece of tissue got caught in the sutures and went necrotic. The doctor had to remove part of the sutures in his office (no painkillers) and dig it out/clean out the wound.. Mine was a small enough spot that they left it open to drain, and luckily I didn't have to pack the wound, just keep it covered with gauze and clean it 3-5 times daily.

It took a long time to start feeling "normal", or not like I'd lost a fight with a weed-wacker again.. I'd say around 4-5 months for me. It's been 18 months since my son was born, and I still have days where my stomach is numb and ice cold, or small periods (a few minutes) where it burns, as if the nerve endings are still trying to reattatch itself. Every doctor I've spoken to says it's normal for some people to take longer to heal from things like this. Nerves take a long time to reconnect to themselves after being severed.

I had an emergency c/s in February five weeks early and then my incision opened up, same as with you the gauze and all that which at first to me was worse than my c/s. Anyhow, I feel for you, I am still a bit sore in some spots especially if that area is touched. When I went in for my tubal my doctor said my abdominal wall was still healing and that was what was hurting. However, I had the incision open up and then had my tubal only five weeks later so I had a lot going on. I would probably check with your doctor, my first c/s didn't hurt this long. I hope you are feeling better soon!

I am so sorry to hear of your tough experience. C-Sections are hard enough as it is, without all of the additional problems you are facing.

I had a scheduled C-section with my son and I felt really bad for the first three days. By the time I left the hospital, I felt much better, but certainly not great. I had a lot of burning and pulling where my thigh met my pelvis...weird, I know. I had this with my fibroid sugery as well (similar to the C-section, but no bundle of joy to go home with).

During surgery, I felt pulling and pressure, but nothing like you decribed. I had problems with the spinal, my BP dropped really low and I felt like I was going to pass out. But once that was regulated, I felt fine...that is until the spinal wore off!

After 10 weeks though, I would imagine you should be feeling better.....but maybe it is taking longer b/c of the incision complications?? I too might seek another Dr.'s opinion, just to be sure. Sadly, you just can't trust all Dr.'s anymore!!!

Wow, I am sorry to hear of your pain. I am glad your daughter is fine. I had an emergency c-section for my first child after 33+ hours of labor. I also had a planned c-section for my second child. I had no complications with either. The second surgery was a bit rough on the table, but not like you are described. I was up and back to almost normal after just 4 days with both children. I thought this was just the usual, now I feel extremely lucky. Have you called your doctor ? I don't much about mid-wives but maybe she could answer the question for you too.

I am sorry your cesection went so badly.
I had 2 csections. WIth my daughter who is 9 now her heart rate & oxygen levels kept dropping and after 7 hours of labor and not dilating anymore they decided to give me a csection.I didnt feel anything after the epidural. I felt a tiny tug when they pulled her out but that is it.
My son who is now 5 was a planned Csection..THey gave me a spinal. When they tried to give it to me the first time the doctor hit a nerve,I felt like a shock go from my back and all the way down my leg. He tried again the same thing happened. The 3rd time it worked but I still had a little shock.I dont know if it was the needle or just me that was the problem.But I will never have one again as long as i live that scared the heck out of me.My blood pressure got a little low when I was having my son. So they gave me medicine to make it go up some and i felt my heart go a little faster.But after the spinal nothing hurt.
Same thing as my daughter I felt a little tug when they pulled my son out.
After I had my kids I bled for 8 weeks.Both times. Had some little blood clots. The only thing that really hurt was from my incinsion.
I imagine you feel more beat up because yours was an emergency one. And you had a lot more then done then I did. But parts of the area where the incision were are still numb after 9 and 5 years.
I am probably no help.But wanted to share my experience with you.
I hope you feel better soon. And just try (i know easier said then done) concentrate on your beautiful baby and someday you can say when they dont want to clean their room. Do you know what I went through to have you??? LOL

My third pregnancy ended with a breech baby and a c-section to get him out. According to everyone, it was the driest, easiest c-section ever. But the next day I was going into shock from massive blood loss. I was internally bleeding. So I had emergency exploritory surgery. After that every thing went down hill. I had many set backs and was in the hospital for quite some time. After a second complication, they had to take the staples out and stick a drain bag on. Anyway, when I was finally allowed home, me husband had to learn to do wet-dry dressing changes, and do them every 8 hours. Plus we had a homecare nurse come and help take care of me. I got a staph infectin and had to get antibiotics. I was in pain and felt like a truck hit me for about three months. So hang in there. I am anti-medicine unless absolutely needed. And vicodin was my best friend through all of that. But it does get better.

R., your c-section doesn't sound normal at all. I think you should seek a new dr and get their opinion. I had a c-section in 2000 with my daughter. I still remember it like it was yesterday, but thats not due to being in pain. I felt nothing but pressure during the precedure. And afterwards all I felt was gas bubbles in my stomach. No where near to what you're saying. I think you may have a lawsuit on your hands. Something just isn't right. Please keep me posted on what happens. I am very concerned. I know its hard to enjoy your new baby when you're in so much pain.

that is a long time to still have pain my thired daughter was born my emergency c section and the pain was gone in a week or two did you ask your doctor about it at your six week check up i would get into the doctor and see what they say welll good luck
