Bumbo Seat - Milford, MA

I thought the bumbo seat was very useful. It's very portable. When we would go places I would bring it and put my daughter in it on the floor when she couldn't sit up by herself. My sister put hers in her sons crib (although I don't know if it is reccomended)and let her son stare at his mobile and the toys in his crib. She would stay in there with him and clean or fold clothes. Once my daughter could move around more she didn't want to be in there, I don't think she liked being confined. She didn't like the jumperoo either. She did like the little einsteins excersaucer though. Hope this didn't confuse you more. The bumbo seat is different from excersaucers.

It was one of the best things we purchased for my son! He loved sitting in it, I could bring it anywhere, and it helped me get a lot done while he was awake!

the only thing that bummed me out about the bumbo seat was that my baby's legs were too chubby to fit comfortably!! if you have a chunky baby, the bumbo seat just isn't really an option, unfortunately.

I got a bumbo from a friend to borrow just after I bought the PedPod. My son had a hard time at first when I got it around 4 months but now that he is 5 months he is doing alot better with it. We have one in our bedroom and living room. It is also very portable. I like to use it when we feed him, play with him, and read to him.

I got a bumbo seat when my son was about 6-7months old. I wish I had bought it sooner (he was just on the edge of sitting up himself). I love it. We still use it when we go visiting friends, and want to keep him contained while feeding him (like a booster seat). Anyway, as I said, I wish we had bought it sooner, when he wasn't able to sit up so much himself. It's light and convenient to bring places, and really helps them sit up and see the world. It's very portable and conventient for travel. Thumbs up!

I don't have a bumbo seat, because they weren't available when my son was the right age for them. They look great, though. It looks like it would be good fo travel feeding, because some of the booster seats don't really work well until the child can sit up unsupported. It's nice for a baby to be able to see the world from a position other than lying on their backs. Do you have a bouncy seat? My son loved his. It has a little piano toy bar that attached and detaches, it vibrates, it was great. He just loved his, and he used it from a few weeks old until about 7 months, when he learned to crawl out of it.

If you decide to go with the bumbo seat, I would wait until he is a few weeks older, and has better head and neck muscle control.

I bought a bumbo seat for my daughter at 3 months old, and she really didn't want to stay in it for more than I would say 5 minutes. She is now 5 months old, and was able to straiten her back and "pop" out of it to the floor. Fortunately, I was right there, and she didn't get hurt, but I would say to consider if your child is a more active baby, you might not get much use out of it. I think it will come in handy since I am just starting baby food, but I don't use it as much as I had first thought I would. Good luck

I work with Occupational Therapists that have bought Bumbo chairs to use in therapy sessions with babies that they service. I bought one when my son was five months old b/c he was beginning to sit on his own but was not yet sturdy enough to do so without help. I absolutely LOVED it! It helped him to sit upright and I believe it really aided him in learning to be more independent in the sitting position. I fed him in this chair until he was able to sit unsupported at which time I transitioned him into his highchair. I would bring the Bumbo when I would go to visit a friend's house so that he'd be able to sit in it there. It was really wonderful. I don't use it so much anymore. My son is almost seven months now, but even though I used it for only a short amount of time, I would highly recommend it to anyone! We also have an exersaucer that we put our son in every once in a while. He does seem to enjoy that but he wasn't able to really use it much until he was able to position himself well in it. I bought it when he was four months and found that only when he was about five months was he able to move himself around in it really well. The difference between the exersaucer and the Bumbo is that the Bumbo supports really well and the exersaucer doesn't so much. The exersaucer has toys to play with and entertain, but the Bumbo doesn't. I think they each have their own advantages.

I realize you posted this a while ago but I'm new here so thought I'd put in my two cents for anyone else considering the Bumbo. I bought one for my daughter because friends had raved about them. I thought it would be great for her since she was a preemie and not sitting on her own yet. But it turns out she hated it! I don't think her legs are super chunky, but she always looked squished in it. Also, I think she didn't like being on the floor (they say to only put in on the ground, not on a table or other chair etc). She prefers to be higher up so she can see what's going on. Now she is 9 months and has mastered sitting on her own, so I'm sorry to say she didn't get much use out of it!

Two things- the Bumbo looks pretty neat. It holds baby upright so they have a view of the world different than when they are on the floor. The Exersaucer has more bells and whistles and entertains baby. But consider this- baby has spent 9 months in complete darkness. EVERYTHING he sees is new and entertaining! The leaves on the trees, you and your family, life in general is new and fascinating. The bumbo may help your child to sit up, but what's the use if baby can't get himself into a seated position himself? He needs to develop the muscles he needs to get into that position. Same as the exersaucer- holds baby upright, but doesn't help baby walk any earlier. For real. If baby can't get into the standing position himself, he won't learn to walk. SO- I think the bumbo was designed for kids with developmental delays (see the big physical therapy push on their website), and now it's being sold to the public. Don't feel badly about letting baby lounge around on the floor on his tummy or back, and use any product that entertains baby for you for only brief periods at a time. It's best to let him learn to entertain himself now so later he will direct his own play (and therefore learning!). Today's kids have such a need to be entertained by their toys, and that's not developmentally best for them (ask me about baby tv and movies if you want to hear a real rant!). And at this age (10 weeks) you don't need anything. Exersaucer use shouldn't start until 5-6 mo, and bumbo not until he has a lot of head control.

Hi,I bought my bumbo seat when my son was 4 months old and I use it in the kitchen when I'm doing dishes, he just loves to be in the same room with me so it makes it easy to just bring that with me where I go. I've also used it in resturants to feed him. He doesnt seem to mind it. My friend also got one and her son was 3 months at the time. He didnt hold his head up very well and she found that he did really well in this seat. I recommend them, but like someone else said if your baby has really chubby legs it might not work for you. My son is border line on growing out of it. Hes now a little over 5 months.
