I am looking for your advice on how to stop breast feeding. I have been mainly pumping and feeding my 8 mo. old girl with a bottle for a few months now. The only time when I breast feed is in an emergency out in public. I am ready to move on and was wondering the best way to attempt this. I tried to space out the pumping in 4-5 hour increments from 3 hour increments and I got a clogged duct. Do you have any suggestions on how I can make a smooth transition?

What can I do next?

I feel your pain. I strickly pumped for 4 months and my son too drank from a bottle. Keep stretching how long in between you pump and also how long your pumping session is. Once you feel you have almost dried up, I would wear a tight sports bra and then put an ace bandage around to tighten the breasts. I also took sudafed or bendrayl to dry my milk up. I hope all goes well and you don't get another clogged duct or the mastistis. Good Luck.

I so envy you. I wanted to continue breastfeeding but my milk is just drying out by itself.

But I know that if you want to dry up your milk, you need to drink mint tea. Also cabbage leaves put on the breast can interfere with milk production. (These are things I tried to avoid during breastfeeding time :) )

You might check at someplace like Whole Foods and see if they have something to dry up milk. Going to 4 hours and then 5 hours, and then dropping one feeding at a time is what we've always done. GL!

Hi. Instead of just increasing the time between pumpings, decrease the time you pump at each session by one or two minute intervals. Also, wear a bra as much as you can, as the tightness will help you dry up. Good luck!
