I have been exclusively breastfeeding for 9 months now and just started my 1st period. :S Will it cause any changes in producing breastmilk?

What can I do next?

I did experience a slight shift in my milk production around that time of the month, but nothing too serious.

If you allow baby to keep nursing as usual - no, it will not affect your supply, tho the taste may change sometime during the cycle which may have the baby nurse less for a few days but go back to normal once the taste does.

I exclusively breastfed as well but got my period when my daughter was 4 months old. I didn't notice a huge change. My biggest change was around month 8-9 when she was eating more solid foods. Huge decrease. I had to take herbs and work really hard to bring it back (I work outside the home so I had to pump). Good luck!

I went a year before getting my period and it didn't seem to bother my son at all. He's 15 months and still nursing like a champ. Now when I pump, I get much less though.

I've had my period since two months postpartum and I experience lower production in relation to the hormones. I just allow my baby to nurse more during that time, and everything goes fine. We're still doing good at 12 months, with very little solid food on his part, also. Congrats to you for still nursing! Call a La Leche League leader if you find it more challenging than you think it should be.
