I have breast fed all my babies w/no problems. Also my right side has always had more milk than my left. Here recently my left has been stinging. It comes and goes and I thought maybe once it was empty the stinging would stop. I haven't decided yet when I will stop breast feeding my 1 year old. I may decide to stop b/c I have been doing it on and off for 2 years now. My hormones are all messed up and I'd like to get back to normal. I was just wondering if anyone has had the stinging sensation and wondered if there is anything I can do to help it go away. Thanks in advance!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you both so much for answering me back. I did call and talk to a lactation nurse and she said it sounded like a yeast infection. I just got medicine, so we'll see if it works. Thanks Again!!! S.

Sounds like a yeast infection in your breast.
I suffered through this a couple of times.

Avoiding sugar and yeast and consuming plain yoguart and taking probiotics will help.

Google natural remedies for yeast in the breast and you'll see some excellent suggestions.

I swabbed my breast with vinegar after each feeding.

Gentian Violet works very well!

Hope these suggestions help!

One painless visit with an acupuncturist should get your hormones back in balance.

As for the stinging, I think this would be the wrong time to stop nursing. That might only make it worse. I'd see a doctor about it. It is also so helpful to have nursing as a calming influence during that second year - I've heard mothers describe it as enormously helpful during turbulent times.

Good luck!

It could be yeast related. You might want to talk to a lactation consultant.

Sounds like it could be a yeast infection/ thrush. I think I recall having that while bfing one of my girls, and we both had to get treated. Hope you feel better soon! As far as weaning her, you have to do what is best for you and your family. They don't really need to nurse after a year, so if it has become a problem, then I would consider weaning.

If you find the medicine doesn't work try a back massage. I had shooting pains in my left breast at one point during breastfeeding and discovered it was caused by tension in my shoulder blade area. A few deep tissue massages helped me enormously.
