Good morning mamas! I just had my 3rd son he is 6 months now and like my other boys I am breast feeding him on demand. With my first two sons my period returned around the time when my sons were between 16-18 months and they stopped breast feeding shortly thereafter. However my son is going on 7 months and I have had a terrible backache for about a month along with abdominal discomfort. Then a fewe days ago I stared getting spotting then it stopped and now this morning looks like maybe the start of a light period, still with a bad backache. But I am nursing my son constantly! Has anyone had an experience like this? Is this normal for some women? Thank you all and have a great day!

What can I do next?

Don't tell me that! I never had my period while nursing, and I sure hope I don't get it with my third!

Sorry I have no real advice! I do know that is varies for everyone, with every baby.

It is different for every woman. My period came back just after my daughter turned a year old. Even though I continued to breastfeed when we were together until she was 18 months, I had ceased to pump during the work day. However, I did have some spotting when she was 5-6 months old. I thought that was it it, but it only was light spotting for a day.

My period started when my daughter was 7 months old, and I was breastfeeding.

Do you normally get a backache with your period? Is it possible you could've been pregnant? I've had two early miscarriages and they came with a backache and off and on spotting/bleeding.

Lol... Of course.

That's why, pre birth control & pre formula, so many millions of children were born 1 year (or less) apart. :D Being Irish, we call sibs born within the same 12mo calendar "Irish Twins". In other cultures, there's different slang.

Nursing affects fertility a lot for some, and not at all for others. INCLUDING different pregnancies. Some women are fertile again almost immediately, some have to wait 6mo after even ANY nursing (1x per day enough to shut off fertility). While women usually react in a similar manner, it can be #1 2 years until fertile, #2 2 weeks until fertile, #3 1 year, etc.

If you HAVENT been using birth control, grab a couple pregnancy tests.

I breastfed all three of my kids. DD nursed until 14 months and my period returned at 5 months. DS1 nursed for 15 months and my period came back at 7 months. DS2 is still nursing at almost 18 months and my period came back at 7 months. Some of us are just unlucky I guess.

With my 1st exclusive breastfeeder , I didn't get my period for a few months after he was 100% finished breastfeeding. My 2nd exclusive breastfeeder, got my 1st period at 4 mos. ( I was not happy) but I breastfed him for 15 mos. & probably got a total of 5 periods.

I got my period back when my daughter was just over a year old and she was still exclusively bf. She actually nursed exclusively for another 18 months, she didn't eat solid food at all until she was 2 and half. So I nursed her exclusively for 2 and half years and got my period around 12 months. With my son, he nursed exclusively as well, but he started on solids around 6 months but the majority of his diet came from me and my period returned just shy of him turning 8 months old. I was still nursing my daughter at time so was actually nursing two kids. She weaned at age 4 when my son was about 18 months old and he continued to nurse for another 18 months and weaned when he was 3. I had regular periods the entire time. I had heard of people nursing one child and not getting a period for over a year or even two years, but I was not so lucky. I got it at less than 8 months and was nursing two at the time.
