Yep, bananas, rice, applesauce and toast really help.
Some people will also say tea but the problem with tea is some of the teas that stop diarrhea in some people give diarrhea to others.
Besides those binding foods, it's important to keep the fluids up.
Pedialyte and Gatorade will help there.
My pediatrician also told me a gut that is irritated sometimes stays irritated for a long time after the initial source of irritation is gone. That's why it can sometimes go on for weeks.
After awhile some yogurt will help to restore some digestive balance.

One problem is that we rush back to regular food to quickly so maybe stay on this longer than the child may like, within reason. Going back to food too quickly can start it all over again.

The most important thing with runs is to keep the baby well hydrated. If the child is BF, do it often. If it is formula child, I would give a lot of water. I don't know about the pedialyte stuff, my daughter wouldn't drink it. I BF so I didn't bother with any of the other stuff, I just nursed her as much as I could. She was throwing up as well, but my LLL leader said that the nutrients get absorbed so quickly that she would be okay if she threw some of it up. GOOD LUCK
