Boys Peeing in Public - Literally in Public

I'm in the camp of good common sense and the factoring in of bathroom availability here. In other words...any port in a storm! LOL
Would I allow my son to pee against the slide or jungle gym on a crowded playground? No. Would I walk to an off-path wooded area before he peed his pants? Yes, ma'am!

My 4 yr old WILL NOT use a port a potty, and that is all they have near the parks where we live. I let her pee in public. Dogs pee everywhere so
I don't see what the big deal is. We find a private area then she goes.

Shoot, I taught my daughter when she was little to pee behind a bush or tree. When you gotta go, you gotta go. Just try to be discreet and don't do it where kids normally play =)

I don't care if it's grown men or little boys peeing is public is disgusting. Little boys need to learn that p****** p**** are just that **private**.

An ice cream bucket with lid works to keep in the car, too. If mom needs to go and can't find a place it works too. Just dump out in toilet, rinse out with the hose and put it back in the car.

I've had to let my daughter pee in public, when she said she could NOT hold it any longer, and we had been on the hunt for a public toilet for about 10 minutes. Not good, I certainly would not encourage it, but it's either let her pee squatting down in the grass, or to have an accident all over herself AND the grass.

I'm sure I would have gotten bad looks, and I actually had a 10 year old boy comment "that's disgusting" to which i quickly responded that it was the best choice we had and to mind his own business.

so plan on some nasty reactions, but in a real emergency, i'd defend my decision to let a potty training child to pee in public.

I taught all of my kids to pee outside. You never know when they gotta go. It was super cute and hard trying to explain to my boys why you can't pee into the wind.

I don't think it's okay, even out of eye shot of little girls. An adult can be arrested for peeing outside as they should be. I really don't think having him use a training potty outside is a good idea either. It's still peeing outside! Have him go before leaving the house and if he has to go while there, either find public restroom or take him home.

my son who is 4 has pee'd on trees and bushes. Sometimes there just isn't a bathroom around and they can't hold it for too long. Yes, I have gotten some weird looks, but I don't care. I don't want to have to deal with a fussy crying kid because his pants are wet. We do try and hide though when he does it

ummm when M. and my friends little 2 year old girls were training they used the high weeeds as well...if noone can see whats the harm? i mean animals pee outiside? plus if theres nowhere within walking distance they're NOT going to make it home

We find a bush or tree to go behind. I do always make sure that we are out of eyesight of anyone, but especially girls. I've found that my newly potty trained boys do it more often- once they get a little older, they do a better job holding it and it only happens when they've really gotta go and there aren't any other options. I think their "equipment" is one of the advantages to having a boy! :)
If other moms have a problem with it, then my attitude is that they need to lighten up a little bit. They're kids- they all pee- and if no parts are seen, then what is the big deal?

Im the mother of 2 girls and grandmother to 2 boys... I have taught/ will teach them all to pee in the grass... And if anyone has anything to say about it, I'll tell them to mind their own business.. If you're so worried about seeing a child pee in the grass, you have WAY to much time on your hands.. LOL

Doesn't worry me. They're little boys for santa's sakes!

I haven't read the other responses; however, I am right there with you. My little one pees in the front yard all the time. Many people, even adults, pee on the side of the road when needed. You do what works when you are potty training.

We were the ONLY ones at the park and the bathrooms were locked. He peed in the grass. We were too far from any public bathroom so it was the lesser of the two evils...

My son plays competitive soccer. One of the fields we have games at has no facilities. Frequently you will see a line of little boys backs facing the fence while they pee before the game. You do what you have to do.

i never thought i'd be so aware of the location of every facility in a 10 mile radius of my home as when i was potty training! i called it "exotic potty tours of south Texas" b/c i could tell you the location and cleanliness level of every facility around! personally i am not in favor of people peeing in public, but as the mammas say, ya gotta do what ya gotta do, especially when there are NO facilities. and if it's little ones who can't hold it, what're ya gonna do? we are not talking about writing one's name in the snow ! LOL! if it is truly an emergency, go outside.

My boys tend to hide behind a tree at a playground. By the time I get to them the deed is already done. It started out as us allowing it once or twice in desperate situations, now they just think it's fun. Fortunately, my 5 year old is much better at holding it till we get to a bathroom, still working with my 3 year old though. I do know some parents who carry around the potty chair in the back of their car for situations like this. When nature calls...

i personally dont have any issue with it at all. i had brothers and was surrounded by neighbor boys growing up so it was normal. we helped teach our son to go outside. i would however ask or look up the law about peeing outside. it might be illegal. think drunk men going outside and they get arrested.

I have not experienced the boy thing yet since mine is only 8 months but I do have a 3 year old girl.

I found the greatest thing ever. It is a toilet seat that folds up into about 1 inch height and it uses plastic bags.

About a 8 months ago, my daughter and I were going to New Orleans to go to some parades with family members. I was not sure what we were going to do b/c she had just completed her first week at school in big girl panties and I knew there were no potties on the parade route.

I take it everywhere. It folds up so small that I can take it in my purse, put it under the stroller, plus I keep it under the car seat for trips. It is the best potty on the go. On long trips, when she needs to go, I put it in the front seat and she seats in it. No more public restrooms.

When she is done going to the potty, you take off the plastic bag, tie it up and throw it away.

I take my son camping a lot and he had a hard time figuring out when you should or should not pee outside. We would be at a park and I'd look over and he'd be peeing on a tree. But then, I realize that some of our camp sites have a playground. I don't care if he pees outside. I'd rather he do that than collect it in a bottle or something. I HATE outhouses and when we camp I can't wait for it to get dark so I can pee outside! I don't necessarily encourage it when we are in town, but I had to laugh one time when I looked outside and he was in the yard with the dog and they were both peeing! I think especially during potty training, if I saw a little kid going in the bushes I'd laugh and carry on with my day. :-)

However, the training potty in the car was always very helpful for me when they were little.

I really don't see what is so gross about a little kid peeing in a bush. If there is a bathroom around of course we use it, but I would pick peeing in a bush over pants any day. I have let my son pee in public before not where everyone else plays but off on a bush or something. Dogs pee out there, there are rats and racoon turds, etc. I do the water bottle thing but I also keep a pack of cheap diapers in my car, and I let my son pee in a diaper if needed, I don't put it on him, I just cup it and he pees into it. Works well.

Personally, I never allowed my little boy to pee outside. I also never allowed my son (who is now 14) to spit outside either. Both habits are disgusting, unnecessary and poor manners.

What I did allow him to do was to learn to open the door for any woman going through a doorway (including his sisters), to walk to the outside of the sidewalk, never to come to the dinner table without a shirt on, to blow his nose AWAY from the dinner table, and proper table manners, including how to hold his fork/knife when cutting meat and that it is NEVER funny to burp or pass gas in the presence of a lady.

It's been a long road, but my goal was to train him to be the same kind of man who I want my daughter's to marry.
