Hi Mamas! I was hoping to get some good book recommendations. I really enjoy reading fictional novels that are both mysterious and fun. My husband thinks I am obsessed with reading about the supernatural, but I really do enjoy reading books about vampires, witches, etc. I really liked the Twilight series (yes, I admit it) and I LOVED all the Sookie Stackhouse novels (I have read every last one of them). So......what are some other good mysterious books out there that are age appropriate (I am 33) that are not just for teenagers?? I also really liked all the Black Dagger Brotherhood books, but they were definately a little over-the-top with language, etc.

Any ideas?? Thanks!

What can I do next?

If you are looking for more vampire books, try the Vampire Academy series. There are 6 books in the series. It took me a couple of tries to get started, but once I started, I read through the entire series.

I have been reading a lot of young adult novels lately. I have read a lot of Sarah Dessen's books. "Just Listen" is my favorite book of hers. Simone Elkeles is another author whose books I've been reading. Both "Leaving Paradise" and "Perfect Chemistry" are the first books of two of her series.

I started reading the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. She is a bounty hunter (kind of fell into it) and not very good at it! The are hysterical with some fun flirty romances and mysteries. I actually laugh out loud at some of the stuff! They are not big involved books and there of seventeen of them. I drop one in my purse and when I'm waiting for kids, doctors, urgent care ect. I always have something light and fun to read!

I also love Dean Koontz, some of his stuff is supernatural, and some isn't, but it's all fantastic. I also recommend the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton. It includes vampires, werewolves, zombies, etc. It's got language & violence, but the main character has strong morals. The first book is called Guilty Pleasures. The only downside is that books 10-15 are just glorified romance novels, but it gets good again after that.

I love The Vampire Academy Series and Georgina Kincaid Series, both by Richelle Mead. VA is young adult and GK is adult (some swearing and sex). The Hunger Games is good by Suzanne Collins and Fallen Series by Lauren Kate.

edit: I wanted to add that I am 31 and enjoy these books.

I really enjoyed The Magicians by Lev Grossman. It was kinda like Harry Potter, but darker, grittier and much more adult! I like "teen" books, sometimes there is just something so refreshing about then, so I really enjoyed the Percy Jackson series. Its more Greek mythology, but I actually learned a lot and they were entertaining quick reads.

Try Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series. It starts with Bitten, about a werewolf named Elena, then the later books have a witch, a necromancer, etc. They're all loosely tied together and I like it a lot.

There's also the Mercedes Thompson series by Patrica Briggs about a were-coyote who was raised by werewolves. I liked it alot.

The Vicki Nelson series, about a former police detective in Toronto who is a private investigator who has a vampire who helps her out is really good also. They even made a short lived tv series about it on lifetime called Blood Ties.

The Hunger Games trilogy - holy cow. You won't be able to put it down. They are considered young adult novels, but they are SOOO intense. Start reading now and you'll be caught up for when the first movie comes out next year!

Also, anything by Dean Koontz. They are all supernatural/humor/thought-provoking. (He's a fan of X-Files, so you can think along those lines.) Any of the trilogies of his are really good (Frankenstein, Christopher Snow, Odd Thomas) but the rest are great, too. My faves of his are Intensity, Sole Survivor, False Memory... I've been reading him since I was a teenager and have only found maybe two or three books of his that I didn't care for. He rocks!

Have you read Anne Rice's Mayfair Witch's Series? OMG -I loved it even more than the Vampire Chronicles. It starts with "The Witching Hour" and continues with "Lasher" and "Taltos". They're not "fun" but they are fantastic!

I'm also a Stephen King fanatic. Again, not "fun" really, but great page turners.

I'll second (or third) the Hunger Games Trilogy. Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz is a good YA Vampire series. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Bloods_(series).

This is my all time favorite series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Song_of_Ice_and_Fire. If you like the tv show Legend of the Seeker, I think you would like this, which falls in the same genre.

(The Girl w/ the Dragon Tattoo was a bit too dark for me.)

If you like Harry Potter type stuff, I would recommend the Gregor the Overlander series.
