My boyfriend is turning 25 on Sunday. I do not have a job so I have no income. I was wondering what could I do for him and that allows the kids to be involved. But like I said, I don't have any money to buy him stuff. I just don't want this to be another birthday of him not getting anything or feeling like he's not worth it. So please, I beg for your input. :) Thanks

What can I do next?

Make him a special breakfast, lunch or dinner that the kids can help you cook, have the kids make him a card. Or you could make a picnic lunch and take him and the kids to the park. Or have a lawn party! Get the sprinklers out and everybody jump in and play!

What about just going to the park? Or even to the Zoo. It's just $7 to get in and kids under 2 are free. You can check it out. www.okczoo.com

Okay, start with breakfast in bed. Let the kids help and wake him up with a full plate of food. Then you can go to the park for a day of fun. Frisbee etc... You can get paper and make a scrapbook of memory pictures. Let the kids do that. Pack a picnic and go to the lake, let him fish and have fun. Just make the whole day about him. If he loves you, he will understand and think this is wonderful. I know my husband just loves to spend time with the kids and I . The coupon book is always a great idea too. (Good for hour of rest, a dinner with your firends) etc... (kids can do a pillow fight, car wash) Hope this helps!!!!!!!! Good luck.

Hi Bobbie-
Along with some of the other ideas below, you could also go to the Deanna Rose Farmstead in Olathe if you are wanting to go somewhere. It is free to get in and there are a ton of things to do and animals to see. Some of the things cost a few dollars like fishing and pony rides and hayrides...but not much. Plus, you can make your own picnic lunch and eat it out there. Here is the website if you want to check it out.

Have fun with whatever you decide to do. :)

What about breakfast in bed? Have the kids help make it, then everyone crawls in bed with him and you all eat breakfast together. You can always wash the sheets. lol. Run him a hot bath with an ice cold beer. Let me think about it. I will get back with you.
I have been thinking about this and doing a little research, and what about finding a jar of some sort, a coffee can for that matter, and having all of them decorate it however they want to. Cut out words in a magazine, and tape them on, use markers and let them write on it. You could also have them tell you things they love about daddy and you write it on small pieces of paper and you tape it on. There are endless possibilities. and then either write it, or print out the saying, "I wouldn't CHANGE my dad for anything!" He could use it for a change jar. It would be using stuff around the house and wouldn't cost you a thing except for your time. Let your little one just scribble on it with your help. If your boyfriend is anything like my husband he would melt. lol

Dear Bobbie,

Do not feel down about not having any money. Lots of ideas are free. Have the kids make him cards from paper, pencils, crayon, paint, markers and so forth. The cards can be any size and can use most any material. Try scratch paper, cardboard from boxes or cereal boxes, paper out of shoe boxes, one sided paper from old printer use. Let them use their imaginations.

Other items to make could be ribbons or chains. They can be made from ribbon, paper, tissue paper, even toilet paper. The kids could make a banner and put up outside or inside. Look for glitter or even colored candy sprinkles. (just do not use quite so much glue if you use sprinkles as they will melt).

Plan a BBQ or a picnic and of course use what you have. The children could help prepare the meal and maybe make some kind of dessert. Even homemade pops using koolaide frozen in ice trays is a yummy dessert during the summer.

For a gift you could make a coupon book. Just make individual coupons and decorated them. Secure them together by stapling, a ribbon or yarn tie or tape. Some examples could be: Free car wash, free meal of your choice, take the dog for a walk, 1 free hug anytime, 1 hour of peace and quiet, 1 chore of your choice, 1 family-time game of your choice. Be creative and allow the kids to come up with some of their own. It does not matter if any of the coupons are the same as the book is good indefinitely. Tell everyone involved that they must pay up when the coupon is presented...no arguing or whining allowed.

Most of all stay full of smiles and have a good time.

Lilly :)

have the two older kids make him a birthday card out of construction paper. make decorations from it too. bake a small cake and have the kids help decorate it. That way everything he gets the kids are involved in and the kids get to help daddy have a wonderful birthday.

Try finding things around the house you can use for the kids to make things for him. Construction paper, printer paper, markers, crayons. Have them draw pictures, help them cut out things and glue to the papers. I'm sure he understand and he'd be happy just with the effort you put into it.
I also like the breakfast in bed idea you were given or something to that affect.
You could make little "redemtion" cards like "good for one back rub" "one morning for sleeping in" those kinds of things and he can "redeem" them at his will.

Hi Bobbie, find a t-shirt and take some paint or whatever else you have around the house and put the kids handprints on it. Write on the shirt happy birthday dad from your little helpers. For the 6 month old do her foot it will be easier than her hand. We just did this for my husband for fathers day. hope this helps you, W.
