This summer I'm looking for some activities to do with my preschooler. He's 3 1/2 years old, turning 4 in October. I'm wanting to take him to a water park this summer but not sure which one. Have you been to one of these water parks with your preschooler? SunSplash, Big Surf, WaterWorld? Which do you prefer and why? Which one is best at being kid/preschooler friendly?
Thank you!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

WOW...thank you so much for the very helpful info. I will 'not' be taking my son, nor anyone else for that matter to the waterparks. Thank you. You all just very well saved us from being hurt. I so much appreciate you all taking the time to tell me how you feel about these waterparks. I've only been to BigSurf when I was very little, round 7 years old. I don't remember much about it other than the wave pool because I was too little to go on the slides they had then.
WOW I'm still in shock from your stories. I hope others read this and heed your warnings as well.
My family and I will be safer this summer because of the info you provided. Thanks again!
Have a great summer!

I wouldn't reccomend any of them for a child as young as yours. I don't even let my 10 year old go (teenager is another story).

However, a great and much more inexpensive alternative is the Foothills Aquatic Center on Union Hills and 55th Aveneue? It has two big slides that are just like the water parks, a lazy river that you can squeeze him in an inner tube with you and float around in and an awesome toddler water play area, as well as regular pool. It is only $5 for Glendale residents and not much more for non-residents.

Personally I will not allow my children to go to any of the water parks. Several years ago I was seriously injured on a water slide at WaterWorld in Phoenix. The management and Board were very uncooperative and I was forced to take it to court. During the pretrial research, I found out that in just the three years prior to my injury there were five other major injuries on that same slide alone. I also discovered that the parks had been sold and the current owners had "no idea" where the operating instructions were for ANY of the slides in the park. They were unable to tell me what the flow rate should be for the slides or why the slide I was injured on had different requirements then it twins did. In my research I also found several people who were current and former employees who had been injured and not taken care of by the company. All three water parks are owned by the same company. Needless to say that after my expierence and what I found out, I am not willing to take a chance on my childrens safety.

Hello!

In case you change your mind over the summer, I would also recommend the Foothills Aquatic Center on Union Hills and 55th Aveneue. We were there last year when our daughter was around 2, stuck to the little kid's pool and all of us had a good time. We are planning on going again this year. It will be a long time before I will let her anywhere else in the park, but the kid's pool starts with zero depth and does not go deeper than 2 feet, which she was able to manage then. They have a few installations in that pool that are "showers" of sorts, which she also enjoyed. I think that tours are available for free, if you just want to have a look some day.

Happy summer!

I've taken my little ones to Water World with several of my friends and their little ones for the past two summers. My children are 3 & 5 now, and they look forward to that every summer. We go to Water World because it's close to us... but we'll make the longer trip to Sun Splash for a special outing a couple times during the summer. I continue to buy the annual passes every summer...I have so much fun with them there. For what we pay, ($50/pass, if you renew by the end of the year) it's so worth it. Because they are so young, we just go in the morning, take a sack lunch (which you can't bring into the park), and then we are home in time for naps. We don't have to spend hours and hours there. We do this once or twice a week. Unfortunately, there are risks to everything, but we play in the little kiddie areas alot, lazy river, wave pool, and small slides. Obviously, you just have to keep a close eye on them. I bring one of my younger cousins with me to help be an extra set of arms & eyes. I wouldn't recommend Big Surf...it's just a big wave pool. Have you looked into Harkins Summer Movie Fun? That's another great summer activity.
