I am looking to buy a Playstation 3 game or two for a 12 year old boy. It is through Adopt-A-Family, so I don't know anything about him, including what games he likes or already has. I'm leaning toward just giving a gift card, but I do have two questions:
1. What PS3 games are favorites among boys this age?
2. What store/site do you prefer to buy games from?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I agree with Lego. Many of them are rated E10 (everyone 10 and up). Lego Star Wars, Lego Harry Potter, Lego Lord of the Rings, Lego Batman, etc. There are so many out there!

My boys are 8 and 10, here are some of their favorites:
Madden16
NBA2K 2016
WWE 2K16
MLB The Show
Call of Duty (we allow this when my husband plays with them and NOT playing with any live players).

So basically anything sports related. I wish I had seen this on Saturday...Target was having a buy 2 get 1 free sale. Otherwise we like GameStop. We have a membership there that gets us a discount and paid for itself within 2 game purchases. If your family does games as well this could work.

Also, no need for a gift card. Add a gift receipt and if they don't like it they can exchange it :).

I don't know about what games to buy, but I get all my games at Game Stop. The good thing about Game Stop gift cards, is since they sell used games, he maybe able to get more than two games, depending on how much you give. They also sell new games as well. I think any sports game would work, and are usually rated for everyone.

i know the gift card is the most sensible, but it's so fun to unwrap an actual gift! love that you're doing this, kasey.
i'd go with one of the lego series. even my kids, who are no longer kids, still enjoy the lego games, and most of them (i think!) are tween-friendly.

My son just turned 13. He likes Skate 3 and Call of Duty Black Ops 2 (but I don't think I'd give that as a gift). He also like Mine Craft. I would think any that are rated T for Teen would be appreciated but a gift card is probably a good idea. Good luck.

We do Game Stop too. They're lots of places and they have used games and new games. We have gone in and come out with 3-5 games and only spent $20. We also bought all our used DS and DSi devices and cases and games there.

A gift card for a place like that will go a long long way.

If you truly want to get him something he can pop in right then might I suggest you talk to some of the staff at the shop where you'll be buying the games???

Please consider too this child's lifestyle. If they are foster kids/low income kids/grand kids living with grandparents/and other situations like that then games with shooting or violence could be very upsetting for the kids.

I had a friend that was a foster mom and she blocked ALL Barney stuff and refused to give the kids any Barney toys. Even if it was from their parents during a visit.

The reason was this, when she had let the kids watch Barney previously they'd all start crying and breaking down. Kids from families like theirs don't have a happy family and Barney is all about a happy family. So that's my point. Think about where they are, what their life is like, etc...then decide if a gift card might be better than a twee/teen game that might be pushing age appropriate content.
