Just wondering if anyone has been to the Basketball Hall of Fame in Sprinfield? I was just wondering about how many hours we should count on spending there for the day? We are planning a 2-day trip with Basketball Hall of Fame the first day and then the next we are going to Six Flags. The day we go to the Basketball Hall of Fame is the same day we are checking into the hotel, so I was just wondering how early to leave to head to Springfield to give us enough time to "enjoy" the Hall of Fame before checking into the hotel. Just looking for an estimate. Thanks for any input.

Hi J.,

Everyone is right, this depends upon the ages of your kids. I went with my husband and brother, neither of whom is a huge basketball fan, and we killed a couple of hours. We didn't spend a lot of time trying to shoot any hoops, but the exhibits and the history is very interesting. One thing that the others didn't mention is that the HOF closes at 5 p.m. on weekdays during the summer and 4 p.m. on weekdays during the winter, so get there early enough to enjoy it. If you'd like a good recommendation for food, Max's Tavern at the Hall is really good. The kids will probably also enjoy Pizzeria Uno, which is also right there. You can also purchase discounted tickets at Big Y grocery stores OR there was also a promotion in last Friday's Republican newspaper for a free kids ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket, but that is only good through the 23rd. Check out the website at www.hoophall.com. Have a blast in Springfield!

I have been there (a long time ago) but as far as I recall you don't need more than an hour (or 2 tops) to enjoy the place. Have fun!

Depending on the ages of the kids and how much they know about basketball- the players, coaches, etc. you can easily spend a couple of hours going thru the Hall. They also get to shoot hoops and all besides. A fun afternoon

Hi! I gre up 5 minutes from there and visited the hall of fame many years ago. I recall that it's very doable in a couple of hours. There is interesting information on the harlem globe trotters and history of basketball, etc. The most exciting part, for the kids (and some adults) is the moving conveyor belt that has many different size baskets lined up along the way--you can shoot baskets there for as long as you want..that's where you'll spend most of your time, so however long you think your kids will last there (and then I would add an hour or so for the rest of the hall). Hope this helps and have fun! There are some great restaurants right next to it too.

Hi J. - The amount of time you can spend there will depend on the age of your children and how excited they are about basketball. I was there 5 years ago and it's not huge, but probably worth 2-3 hours of fun if they really like basketball. Maybe more if they're totally into it. Have fun!
