Hi A.. You don't have to play games if you don't want to. We played them at my baby shower, just because everyone wanted to, but not at my best friends. Heres an idea for an inexpensive game. Ask everyone to bring one small esential item. Nail clippers, nose aspitator etc. Put all of the items in lunch size paper bags and number them. Pass the bags around and have the guests guess whats inside just by feeling. Its fun and you get to keep all of the stuff. You could also melt some candy bars in diapers and have people guess what kind it is just by looking and smelling. I thought it was kinda grose, but my guests had fun. and you get to keep the leftover diapers. Oh and you can also make lists of famous people and their childrens names, see how many people can put the famous names with the kids. I'm sure you can find the names online. Hope this helped, and Congrats on the new baby!

Hi A.!
Congratulations on your new blessing! I've been to several baby showers lately where there were no games at all and it was great. Most of those are time fillers and our groups preferred to just catch up with the mom-to-be and each other. One thing we did that didn't cost anything was to have pieces of paper so that other women could write words of encouragement or words of wisdom to you. At my shower they wrote blessings to the baby and those are so sweet and special and such a treasure!

Congratulations again!
A.

I guess you wound't have to do games, but I LOVE playing games at showers. My favorite is the chocolate diaper game. We played it at mine and I have used it at every shower that I have given. You take some cheap diapers and put different kinds of chocolate bars in them cut up. Microwave them for a few seconds until they melt and the guests have to try to figure out what candy/chocolate bar each is. We number the diapers and make a master list so we know for sure. It sounds easy, but can be pretty hard.... it makes great pictures when people are smelling the diapers trying to figure out what it is!
As far as food, just do some munchy/finger foods and sandwich type foods. We never went all out with any of ours (I have hosted 5 showers to different friends). A good munchy food is crescent rolls with chicken salad in them and wrapped in a diaper shape (cut crescents into small trangles first). Yummy and really good... cheap too!
Either way- Congrats!

I would play some game. I would just get some dollar prizes, picture frame, candles, candles holders, and hair stuff. But if you really don't want to play the games what are you going to do. I think that is what makes the shower sometimes. Just my thoughts. Just to give you some ideas for games- bingo, toliet papaer around your belly, clothes pin for cross your legs, the memory game. You know you can wait to give out "prizes" at the very end and then say sometime like "o everyone gets a prize and give out the plates". Just a thought. Have fun and don't stress over this.

You don't have to play games. There is no written rules that you have to have games. One thing I did at my baby shower that I loved, was I bought a children's storybook that had poems, nursery rhymes and other familiar children's stories. Then I passed it around and had people sign it on the page of a story they remember most as a child or that they read to their children. People had fun browsing the book and finding stories they liked and wrote a little advise. When I read that to my kids I always smile at the things that others had written six years ago.

There are games too that don't cost money if you you want to play them. But I think sitting around talking and enjoying each other's company is what its all about....

You could do a diaper cake, make a three layer cake using size 1 and 2 diapers, Tie a big bow around each layer and have them guess how many diapers are there, and then you have the diapers for after the shower.

I have lots of cheap games, if you would like some more ideas.

Hi A.,
You can always play games that dont cost much at all. I have played a game at a baby shower and wedding shower that is fun.
At Micheals you can find little diaper pins or pacifiers. Give a certain amount to each person. If someone says a particular word and someone else catches them they can take one of their pins. Example Baby, Pregnant, or babies name. Whomever has the most pins at the end wins.It is alot of fun. We have also filled baby bottles with juice or whatever you like and then whomever could drink it the fasted through the nipple won. That was alot of fun and makes for funny pictures. You can always buy a inexpensive potted plant as a prize. Good luck and congrats on your little one!

There's some good sites out there that have wonderful game ideas. At our shower we had a raffle. people bought a ticket for $5 and guessed the baby's date, weight, time, etc. & whoever was the closest without going over got a gc to a restaurant. We made about $200 off of that alone! we really didn't have any other shower games though. it wasn't your typical baby shower though....we used to be bartenders before our little surprise came along so we threw a huge pool party w/ bbq and a keg! LOL! We received about $2000 in gifts, $900 in gc alone! It's funny how young people will flock to a keg. It worked for us though!

There are many games that you can play that don't cost money. The most fun one I remember at my shower was to get some toilet paper and wrap it around your belly, then have your guests guess how many squares it is. Oh, and another one was to blindfold someone and give them baby food (veggies work the best) and see if they can guess what it is. I did that one also and just asked my friends and family to bring a couple jars "for a game". We had fun with that game, plus I had plenty of food for when my child was old enough. Trust me, people understand how much raising a kid costs, and don't mind bringing things to help out with the shower.

Hi A. and congrats on your pregnancy! I've been researching online baby shower ettiquete (I'm pregnant myself) and basically since it's your shower you get to decide what goes on. Nobody says that you absolutely have to play games and give out prizes and so on. It can just be a gathering of friends and family to honor you and the little one you're expecting. Just have fun, relax and enjoy this special time!

Hi and congrats to you. With my first babyshower, my friends got together and had a fun game. Its where you have a safetey pin pinned to a diaper... Who ever gets the diaper with the mustard in it gets to give me the gift to open it was really fun and exciting...... There are cheap ways to buy things for the shower if you can think of anything. Like for instance there is the dollar tree they have really nice neat things there.....

One idea is to do stuff that will entertain but not necessarily games with prizes. Have projects that your guests can do but you get to keep as keepsakes. For instance I saw on a show a woman who did a belly cast. Basically do the same thing you would do to make a piniata, the glue concoction you can find it on the internet, its just water and flour i think, then strips of paper whatever color you want and have the ladies do the work. Plaster your belly, Then you get to keep it, they turn out really pretty and if you want your guests can sign it. Or you could do games and not give out prizes who says you have to?

I had my baby shower with my family and friends, men and women. I did that so my husband could be part of the party because he'd just got back from Iraq and it was our first baby. We had no games but we did have a CAKE! I would say do what you are comfortable (financially) with. I am not into the girly games...they just aren't me. There are games that aren't expensive. One is a game that i played at my cousin's shower where you have baby words scrambled and the person to get the most gets a prize. Look online for cheap games. I'm sure there are some out there. I hope this helps.

here is a fun game and no prize needed...

get those "hello, my name is.... name tags. on each label, write a baby related item. (bottle, pacifier, crib, onesies, etc.) this is the persons new name. get a piggy bank and set it on the table or apoint someone to be in charge of it. the name on the label is the new name of that person. whoever calls the person by the real name and not the new name has to put change or a dollar in the piggy bank. it is fun to watch everyone call each other asperator and baby wipe and diaper. it is a fun way to "break the ice" and it doesnt cost a lot!
