It's a hard life. I had a friend whose children were into modeling. Well, she was into their modeling -- they weren't.

They spent most of their toddler years and early elementary years going to one audition or another, and sitting in long lines waiting. They got good at living out of back packs and eating lunch on the floor. They were absolutely adorable kids with A+ personalities and they barely got any work. The competition was crazy.

So while all the other neighborhood kids were out playing in the park or the sandbox or riding bikes, etc., she and her kids were sitting inside waiting in line for pretty much nothing. And it cost her more than they ever made. Not worth it in my opinion.

Check online for local modeling agencies around your area and see if they allow you to submit pics by email or in the mail. Then they will contact you if interested. That is how both of my daughters got started. They are with the same agency and my younger one since she was 3 months old so i don't think they need to be 6 months or older usually. I think they have to be at least 6 weeks.
Whatever you do, Do Not get involved in those companies claiming to have 'open casting calls' and talent agents on the spot like John Robert Powers or anything similar. They ask you for thousands of dollars up front for so-called 'classes' and exposure to industry people. A real agency will never ask you for money up front, and babies do not usually need proffessional pics since they change so fast. Good luck!

As a model for most of my life, the first and most important thing is .....RUN if someone wants you to pay for anything.

My daughter (almost 16) had a job in LA for a week and hated every minute of it. She stopped after that experience.

Secondly, a snapshot is all an agency needs. Work with a reputable agency, Kims Dawson and Campbell are 2 in the DFW area.

Third...Modeling is WORK. Expect to be called for a gig only to sit and wait forever for your turn to try out. This could be during naptime, very cranky time, etc. It is a lot of work for parents and child. Some children hate it....if your child hates it, please respectfully stop.

If you do stick with it and are accepted (only select few are selected) don't take things personally. Modeling involves a lot of rejection, mean mammas and patience on your part as well as your baby.

Put any monies made from modeling in an account for your child. They are working for it.

I thought about this too, my son was not only way cute, but he ate so well everyone told me to have him audition for commercials, but the thought of having to drag him around to auditions and being one of those stage moms so turned me off I never did it. I guess you could start by calling an agency that has kids, but be sure they are not asking for money up front, that is always a scam.

just dont do it. especially if you dont want to!! you have to be really dedicated to it.
i cant believe anyone would think that its a good idea. wow. talk about starting out with making your kid feel like all that matters is his looks. :(

start with pageants :). my daughter has done pageants and a lot of her friends have been signed with various places. its a good place to start getting him comfortable being infront of strangers. also you will meet a lot of great moms and dads out there.

Hi V.... My son is a "baby model" for the Ford agency in S.F.(He was signed at 10mo) from what I was told is they don't contract a baby till they are 6mo. due to the fact that under 6mo. you need a nurse with them for all photo shoots etc. etc.... And I would think this costs a lot of money to hire a nurse for the day... again this is just what I was told.

i was told the same thing about my daughter-but i just was not willing to subject my child to the public veiwing...to many weirdos and if you do do it-be very careful..lots of pedifiles out there playing the great photographer

My aunt knows someone who works at 3M in the Cities. She mentioned to me last summer that they were looking for babies to model for a new product. That same person has a daughter who did a one time model shot with Target when her daughter was about 6 months old. Personally I didn't want to get into that with my kids. You could contact the Target or 3M advertising departments and inquire about opportunities.

Baby Gap has modeling openings all the time! Google it!
