Has Anyone Worked with "The" Model & Talent?

My daughter got a call-back for a commercial audition that would eventually lead to Disney Channel, but I would have to pay around $2800 for her to attend a large event in Orlando in July. Does anyone have any experience with this? Does everyone get a "call-back", is it worth it... I can't find any info online besides their own website.
Thanks!

I've modeled most of my life and my 15 yr old has dabbled in it.

NEVER NEVER pay money. IF they like you and want you THEY will come to you

If it smells like a rat it is a rat.

If you ask any real talent agency, they will tell you that if they want your child for their advertising, it wouldn't cost you a dime.
Fake agencies hold "casting calls" all the time and then everyone qualifies because that's how they make their money. You pay them to waste your time, just so they can drag you out there and do nothing.
Same goes with paying them thousands for head shots, modeling classes, etc. They lead you on and when you're broke they let you go.

Beware!!! Why would you pay anything if she had actually "won" something? Don't be lured by the flattering aspect of this. Save your $2800 in an educational IRA, and she will be sitting pretty in college some day!

I have heard, never pay. From what I have heard, if you have to pay it is a hoax. I have a friend that looks like Cindy Crawford. Same thing travel, pay to go to the "next level". She did it and never heard from them again. I have seen numerous "talks" from professionals on this and they all say you should not have to pay. I would do a little more digging. Hopefully someone who has worked with this company will answer and then you can make a decision!! Good luck!

I had a similar experience with myself and found it suspicious. They wanted $1900 to go to Florida, and the chances of it getting me anywhere were pretty slim. Check with any modeling agencies in your area. They are probably more trustworthy. Good luck.

A call back is like a second interview for any job. She has a very good chance of getting the job. It depends upon a lot of factors: how many kids get a call-back, how well she does at the call-back, excactly what they are looking for. Do you have an agent for this child? If not get her an agent right away.

I also agree that you should never pay. I have a friend whose daughter and son did modeling and commercials and she was told by her agency to never pay for auditions. Those kinds of things are usually scams. She found work for her kids but it was tiring, time consuming and her kids ended up hating it so she stopped. It's a rough industry to be involved in.

My sister is a professional entertainer and has worked for Disney for years between the Disneyland Park in Japan, Broadway shows in NYC, and national tours of the U.S. If these people are asking for money, this is most likely a scam. My advice would be to walk away.

Good luck,
S.

My son and my niece have both done modeling. The one rule is you shouldn't have to PAY! That is a big red flag. I mean paying a cut of a job to your agent is acceptable but that is for them getting them jobs and doing the leg work to get them an audition. But it cost nothing up front. And really you don't even need an agent. I mean the jobs locally don't pay a ton somewhere between 50 and 150 usually a job... but we get them pretty regularly and it goes right to my son's college fund. But if you are willing to fly to either cost you can get alot more jobs... but you have to pay for the flight. No one is flying you out there but I wouldn't do that unless you already have the job and it is worth it. It never has been though. I got an offer for a job in Texas and the job payed about what the flight costs so why bother? But that was for me and not my son. The agent tryed to talk me into doing it cause it could lead to more jobs... but I have no desire to fly all over the US to get decent jobs.

But I digress. There are places here for your child to model and you should NEVER have to pay for anything. You should simply go to an audtion maybe, or just get the job automatically from your portfolio and go there. NO PAYING!

I agree w/ everyone. My friend in HS got caught up in a similar scam where her parents had to pay $500 for a "modeling class", which led to shelling out oodles of $$ for pictures and a portfolio, which led to a trip to NYC for $2,000 to go to "interviews," all of which led to NOTHING. So, run from this and go to a local agency if your daughter wants to do some modeling, NEVER pay!!

don't do it. it's a scam. i've been working in the industry as a professional photographer for 15 years and work with local agencies all the time. i have never heard of "the" model & talent. no reputable agency will ever ask you to invest a large sum of $ before getting you work.

I don't know much about it, but what I have heard OVER AND OVER again is that you shouldn't have to pay at all. If they want you, they pay you...sorry I can't help you more!

i attended something like this when i was 15. it was called model search america. i feel horrible that my mom did this for me because she was a single mom and had to pay $500 just for me to be in it, along with the trip to chicago. i walked the runway and that was about it. i got a call back and all they told me was i had a nice look and could do modeling. if you don't plan on moving to california or new york, you will honestly get nothing out of it. there are lots of modeling agencies in minneapolis. just send in your daughter's picture or go to an open call. i currently am with an agency and so is my 6 year old daughter. the work is few and far between sometimes but when we do get jobs (like gopher sport catalog, target, 3m, wedding shows, etc) the payout is a nice chunk of extra spending money. here are some agencies in and around minneapolis:
agency models and talent (this is the one myself and my daughter are a part of) wehmann, meredith, vision management, caryn international and moore creative talent. i know there are some more. just try doing a google search. do not pay anything up front. i paid $350 for some professional pictures-the agency will need these to market you to their clients. other than that, everytime i get paid from a job, the agency takes 20%. do not pay for any other fees unless it's acting classes. if you have any other questions, feel free to email me at ____@____.com (that goes for anyone else reading this too! i hate to see someone flush money down the toilet and get taken advantage of!!) p.s. all of the agencies in minneapolis are non-exclusive which means you can be represented by more than one agency
