Baby Bends One Leg When Lying Down?/

My 4.5-month-old (3.5 months adjusted) bends her right leg to touch the inside of her left leg a lot when she's lying down. She doesn't feel particularly tight or loose in either leg -- she just seems to prefer lying that way. She also tends to cross her ankles sometimes between kicks, and although she bears weight on both legs, she is more likely to bear weight longer on the left leg (the one that usually stays straighter when she's lying down). She seems to use both legs equally and doesn't bend the right leg when she's on her tummy. Does this sound familiar to anyone? :)

Have her checked for hip dysplagia. It can go undiagnosed for a while. Better safe then sorry.

I agree with the others- it's most likely nothing, she's comfortable this way, but it can't help to get it checked out.

Keep us posted! :)

It really doesn't sound like anything is wrong, however, she could have her right hip out of joint. Next time you are at the doctors have them take a look. We ended up at the chiropractor who popped it back in place. Good luck and God Bless.

if in doubt get her assessed. When my 29 weeker wasn't rolling over at 8 months (corrected 6.5 months) I had her assessed at the local school district. If your daughter was NICU they might have a follow up clinic to ask too. Or just check in with ped. Just in case there is something going on better to start therapy early. My guess would be it's just comfortable. Both my girls got themselves into really awkard positions to sleep.

Sounds very normal to me. I bend one leg when I lie on my back because it's more comfortable. It may be more comfortable for her or she may have just developed a habit. Crossing her ankles is just another way to kick. My granddaughter does that, too. She will assume different positions and actions with her legs. It's all a part of learning how they work.
