Hi1
Does anyone get B12 shots and if so, how long does it take to feel the difference? Also, what was your B12 level when you started the shots?

What can I do next?

My mom did for a while, but her doctor gave her other vitamins as well, she said she felt the difference right away. Def make sure you do it with your doctor.

B12 injections are most often ordered when your levels are low because you cannot absorb the B12 in your small intestine caused by some conditions. (you may know this already, I am just reiterating for moms that suggest oral supplements or that B 12 injections don't work.

The purpose of B 12 is not to cause immediate energy, B 12 helps build the red blood cell which carries oxygen to your organs and brain. low B 12 levels cause fatique and low energy, so the injections will help you regain your energy and decrease the fatique that you were experiencing because it is an important component of the red blood cell. Taking more B 12 than you need will not give you extra energy.

I take B 12 injections (I do it myself) my B 12 levels are low because I have a condition which impairs absorption of B 12 from food or oral supplements. , it does help in the same way iron replacement would help someone who has the type of anemia that requires iron supplements - except iron can be taken orally because it is absorbed in the body in a different way than B 12.

How long before you will start feeling better, well that depends on how low your levels are, sometimes it will take several weeks and several injections before you start to feel well. If your levels are not extremely low you may start to feel better in about a week after the injection.

Some people are prescribed B 12 injections every 3 months (the blood cells life cycle is 120 days) others, like me, require a B 12 injection monthly.

I don't remember how low my levels were before I started, it has been a few years since, I have been on the therapy for a few years now (I will most likely take it for life, I have celiac disease and absorption issues)

FYI, It is important that you find out why your B 12 levels are low, why isn't your body absorbing the nutrient? Pernicious anemia, celiac disease and other conditions cause mal absorption. Vegetarians often have low B 12 levels but the cause is not due to mal absorption, it is due to not getting B 12 in their diet and they can benefit from oral supplements.

So, more info than you wanted, I hope it is helpful

PS: if your doctor prescribed B 12 injections versus oral supplement then there is a reason for that.

I totally agree with doing it with your doctor - not with anyone else. You cannot isolate the B vitamins. If you take supplements for ONE of the B's, you need to take a multi-B vitamin supplement too.

My mom swears by them-the difference will be felt early on-generally, chemicals in the stomach interfere with absorption of B-that's why the shots are so effective.

My husband had B12 shots when he was doing a medical weight loss program. I don't know what his levels were before the shots, but he says he felt much better afterward. Now he has liquid B12 that he takes daily.

go though your general doctor. first do bloodwork to make sure your levels are low. i get them, and yes you feel a difference immediately. unfortunately they don't last long, a week of great energy and then it slows down. if your levels are low, ideally you will get them bi-weekly.

I don't recommend shots...you can get what you need in a liquid natural source. I sent you a PM.
