Hi Everyone,
At what age did your child go from taking two naps to just one? I can't remember when my older son did, so I need some help. It looks like my little guy is getting ready to drop to one nap and I'm dreading it. Less time to do housework!! :(

What can I do next?

My DD dropped her second nap around 10 months... BUT her single nap got longer, so I had the same amount of time. :)

My daughter at 18 months.. my son at 9 months..

but then the one naptime moves earlier.. with 2 naps.. naptime might be 9-10 and 2-4.. when you move to 1 nap.. it is 11-2

and bedtime moves earlier too.. bedtime might be 630 for a while.

My daughter dropped to one nap at 15 months but I've read that the norm is anywhere from 12 to 18 months.

My daughter is 22 months and she has just transitioned to one nap over the last week. So I cant even say for sure that this will be our new schedule but it seems to be going well

Every kid is different in what they need. Both of my girls were showing signs and made the switch at about 15 months.

Most kids, where the parents are working, go from two naps down to one by the time are one year old.

They move up to the toddler room at that point and that age class can only take one nap during the day. So all mine went to one nap well before they were one, probably by 11 months at the latest.

it depends on your child, but in most cases, and with my son, he only started having one nap a day around 18 months. He slept for longer though. So two naps combined into one loooooong two hour, sometimes three hour naps.

Mine were between 13 and 14 months. I tried to draw it out, but they wouldn't sleep anymore!

Mine were both between 14 and 16 months. For them, just one nap meant a longer nap (2 1/2 to 3 hours). I was able to get more done once that began.

I'm actually looking forward to the day my 2 1/2 year old is done with naps, because right now he and his brother might get up at the same time in the morning, but the younger guy naps and is up later while the older one is up all day and goes to bed early. When they are both done with naps there will be more things we can do on the weekends. I'm just really looking forward to some of the "all day" type things we'll be able to do on Saturdays!

It is not by 'age.' It is by the child's needs.

My son, from when he was already 3, went to 1 nap per day. Before that he was napping twice a day. And when he was a baby and during his 1st year, he'd nap 3 times a day.
He is 5 now and still naps. Not forced to nap, but needs it. He knows his cues.

My 18 month old still takes two. I have been trying to get him down to one so that we can actually get out more, but he still really needs two or he's miserable!

My friends kid has only had one nap since he was around 9 months. All kids are different.

Good luck!

at 16 months old. There were a few months there (between 13 and 16 I'd say) where he was in transition and it was awful. He wouldn't take two but he definitely needed them. He's now 17 months old and we've finally gotten into the swing of things with one nap. My biggest sign that this age is appropriate for one nap is he doesn't get so unbelievably out of whack when he is tired. It used to be (when he was younger) if he was tried he was basically non-functional. Good luck

Also want to add: part of the transition was his one nap a day was just as short as a single nap had been before (so, instead of 2 hour long naps he was taking just one nap this length!) He gradually lengthened this out and now 2 hours in a minimum.
