The ones I know about are:

Royal Oak Farm in Harvard, IL
Kuipers (out west of Geneva)
County Line (In Hobart IN)

They are probably all about an hour drive or a little more. You can google each one for info and directions. Call and ask if they have u-pick apples this year because I've heard that the crops were bad due to the weather we had this spring and summer. I heard that the trees at County Line were empty last weekend. We've only been to Royal Oak and really enjoy it there.

This place is alittle more than an hour but its soo worth the drive. They have apples picking, and pumpkin picking just started. They also have the best cider and donuts!! Also they have a petting zoo, and fun things for the kids to do :) We have been here several times, and always have fun!!

Check out www.pickyourown.org You can find a farm near you (left side of the page). Be sure to check out Michigan and Indiana also. Niles MI is not that far away and would fint in with your 1 hr travel time frame.
