Anyone Know How to Get Rid of a Hot Tub?

When we moved into our house, there was a large hot tub that came with the house. Well, we never ever use it and I want to know how to go about getting rid of it. Has anyone ever either sold or bought a used hot tub? How did you get it moved?

Thank you for the responses on freecycle. I am a member and just got rid of our basketball hoop via their site. At this point, we are looking to possibly sell the hot tub as it needs a part ($375-450). If we invest the $ to fix it, we would want to sell it. I didn't put that on my original request because I didn't want anyone to think I was trying to sell it on Mamasource...I was just looking for advice on how to go about doing it and what others have experienced.

THANKS.

What can I do next?

Greetings, I am a single mom, and I have always, always, dreamed of having a hot tub. I also belong to freecycle. I cannot afford to buy one, but, if you are considering giving it a good home, I would like you to consider me, please. I have a few male friends, with trucks, and I am sure that I can arrange pickup. I understand if you were hoping to sell it, but, again, if you are considering freecycle, or giving it to a good home, I would LOVE TO HAVE IT!! It could be an awesome stress relief. Thanks, J.

We just got rid of one this summer, we found someone to give it to and my husband and 5 friends carried it and we used a trailer to move it to that persons house. What a pain in the butt it was but we were happy to be rid of it.

I think you would be able to sell it easily if you repaired it.

You could try the local papers: Northwest herald, which I believe just started the option to create an ad online. Then there is also Pioneer Press/Cary-Grove ___?.

You could also try some of the local yahoo groups. You have to register with the group, but it's free to use.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lake_county_for_sale/
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AlgonquinSellorTrade/
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ILexchangeSTORE/

You could also make up a small little ad and post it at the grocery store, gym, etc. If you feel like running around.

You will probably get the best free exposure with a craigslist ad.

Good luck,

try freecycle.org....it's pretty amazing. post it as something you want someone to come and take away and you'll likely get a lot of takers.

good luck!!!

If you want to sell to sell it then go with ebay and let them know they have to pick up or try craigslist. If neither of those work for you and you want to just get rid of it you can freecycle it go to the www.freecycle.org and sign up in an area close to you and you can just post it as an offer and let them know they need to make arrangements.
