I'm having my breast augmentation in 8 days (Friday 26th) ! And I'd like to hear from you wonderful ladies, if there is anything I can do to help with my recovery. I will be going back to work 10 days after surgery and I will have my husband and mother in law helping me during recovery. 3 days before surgery (next tues) I will start taking Arnica( anti-bruising) and Dulcolax to help with the narcotic induced constipation. I plan on religiously staying on top of my pain meds wether I feel I need them or not, I don't want to even give the pain a chance to show it's ugly face! I will have all my shopping and cleaning done by thurs. What am I missing?? also, Im a 38b, I bought a couple of Danskins sports bras in a 40.......but how the heck do I even know if they will fit? My surgeon will give me a surgical bra, but I can't imagine that being too comfy, so what size sports bra should I have gotten? I'm getting 495cc saline under the muscle. Oh and another question, he left it up to me to chose where I want the incision, nipple incision seems smaller but you could lose your nipple if something should go wrong and the tissue doesn't attach properly and dies! so I'm considering going under the boob, I'd love others advice on this! Thank so much!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Manda- that's terrible that your friend lost her nipple!! my worst fear! I will add a couple of pineapples to my shopping list!! Thanks a bunch!

3girls&hubby-- Thanks you!1 I will make sure I keep the girls iced up! :)

Angela-Thank you so much!! I will most definitely keep you gals posted! :)

Jennifer- WOW I can't thank you enough for all your input! I already added the pineapple to my shopping list! Now about the PB8, what a great suggestion! I was on 2 different antibiotics last week for a throat infection and uti and now I will be getting some for the surgery so I think I will definitely be picking some up to keep a yeast infection away! Plus it would be great if I didn't have to take the dulcolax, one less pill! about the calcium magnesium supplement - any brand in particular? have you used this yourself? a lot of the posts ive read regarding BA mention taking muscle relaxants but my doc didn't RX me any so I was curious about that. About the size- he has completely left it up to my and just gave me his opinion which was that I picked a great size for my frame, I'm 5'1 and 177lb, my bottom half is very curvy, flat belly and im a 38b but very deflated, which means I have enough tissue to go into the high 400's and up to 530cc. I showed him pics of what I'd like and he feels that he can achieve it and even make it better were his words LOL You're right about staying away from the nipple, why risk losing sensation when I can go under the bood right? again I can't thanky you enough for taking the time and giving me all of this great advice!!

M. H-I remember you messaging me about this! and honestly I could never remember the correct terms to bring it up to my doc but I'm going to look this up and bring it with me the day of surgery! and I will also ask about the internal stitches because I'm really not looking forward to getting anything removed with the wounds being so fresh! Did you use any kind of ointment on your incisions?

Meredith- thank you so much!! I will be looking around for the Traumeel!!

I know 2 women that have had theirs done. They would both say to go in under the boob or through the armpit. 1 went the nipple route, and she did wind up losing her nipple after a painful infection.

Can't speak to size of the bra, but expect to be swollen for AWHILE. As in, months.
I had a tummy tuck and lipo, and it was a full 6 months before all the swelling went down.

Congrats on your surgery!

Oh, and eat pineapple. Seriously...the arnica will help...and pineapple is a natural anti-inflammatory. It will help with swelling. I ate an entire one in the 3 days after my surgery. Definitely helped to naturally rid my body of toxins and keep the swelling down.

Wow, you're doing alot of prep work! I had a breast augmentation on Tues March 12th and was back at work on Thurs Mar 14th. Hopefully your surgeon doesn't still use the technique of blunt dissection as this is what causes so much bleeding and swelling. Most plastic surgeons here in the Dallas area use elctrocautery which significantly reduces bleeding and virtually eliminates bruising. I had no bruising, swelling or bleeding after surgery. I took pain meds the first day home and then none after that. I had silicone placed under the muscle via the inframamory fold. I have no idea what size implants I have as my dr. had me pick pictures of women with similar size bodies that I liked. He had the pictures in surgery with him and he matched the pictures to which implants he inserted. I am now 6 weeks post surgery and they look just as I wanted. I do not wear a bra at all until they have "fallen" to where I want them to be.

Also, wanted to add my stitches were internal so I wore no bandages at all.

Good luck on your surgery!

I got the mommy make over on feb 7. I have to say if I didn't have to have a lift, the boob job would of been easy. I was an 34/32 a/b and I did 495 cc. I did not know what size implants before surgery. The dr had me look at pictures and pick a few before hand. I was a full D for several weeks because of swelling (lift) now I am a full c (which is what I wanted). I would also buy Traumeel cream at whole foods. It has arnica in it. It really helps with pain when you rub it on boobs. It feels like a topical pain meds. The bra the dr gives you is not bad under clothes. My dr gave me like 3 of them. It opens in the front because you won't want to lift your arms up and pull something over head for a few days at least. Email me if u have any questions

My friend had one done and she did the nipple incision which was fine for her. The thing that helped her heal the quickest and without a lot of swelling or bruising was following the doctors orders. He told her to put ice on her breast every 15 minutes for the first entire night. When she went for her check up he said that she had the least swelling he had ever seen. Her husband was very good at changing her ice every 15 minutes! I believe she was able to return to work within a week or so. Best of luck to you!
