I know there are alot of parents here that are very knowledgable of GREAT nutrition. (sorry if lots of typos fingers and brain not working too well today) I had a great list of antiinflamatory foods and for the life of me I can't find it and right now I NEED it. I know some of them, but would like somelists or favorites of others. This is the situation, I have been on predisone for over a year, I have just finished tapering off, and I am in tremendous pain, I meanreally bad, worse than I have felt before, feels like every joint of my body, fingers, toes oh and the knees...the knees are really bad, and back, so pretty much my whole body and I dont have time for this, I have a family to take care of and enjoy! So if you know of any good painrelief remedies with anti inflamatory foods, please share, thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

Oh Sassy, no wonder you're so feisty, steroids will do that to you! Not only do they cause a tremendous amount of swelling and pain they cause terrible moodiness.

I'm sorry I don't know of any anti-imflamatory food,( you could try to google it) but I wanted you to know I can relate to how you are feeling. I've been on and off of steroids for years...they certainly are not benign.

There are lots of great lists on the web. I have a protein smoothies every day with Cinch, leafy greens, wild blueberries, and half a banana. For lunch, I usually have a casserole with zucchini, tomatoes, and onion sauted in in garlic and olive oil. Top with just a little mozzarella cheese.
I can also recommend a great herbal pain relief complex if you are interested.
Hope you feel better soon.

No recommendations ... Just wanted to commiserate and say prednisone is EVIL! 20+ years ago ... 18 months on 120 mg a day ... Side effects were insurmountable and required multiple more meds to control them. I literally break down in tears if a doc even starts to recommend prednisone or solumedrol for anything. Will NOT take IT again unless it's life or death. Will keep you in my thoughts as you go through this time. Autoimmune diseases SUCK (I have at least 3, so I know of what I speak). Best wishes and feel better.

There are a lot of autoimmune disorders in my family tree (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, celiac, hashimoto's thyroiditis).

We all do much better on a gluten free diet. It can take a couple months to see an effect.

Good luck.

I don't have this list, but I do remember that corn is a food that actually causes inflammation. Dr. Nancy Snider talked about that in her book. I don't eat much corn, though it's certain hard to say no to it in the summer when it's fresh on the cob!

Gluten and dairy are both inflammatory. My family has been eating a GF/CF/sugar free diet for a while now, and it's working well for us for our various issues (autism, inflamed kidneys and liver, etc). Apart from that, there are some food intolerance tests that can help determine which foods you should steer clear of. We went to New Dawn Health in Plymouth, MN, but I'm sure you can find a place near you.

Sometimes it's a matter of knowing what TO eat and what NOT to eat. Good luck!

I used to have severe Tendonitis and nothing was helping, including physical therapy.. Apart from leaving a job whereby I was on a computer for several hours a day which contributed to my pain, I also started making green drinks.. Such as spinach, blueberries , raspberries and many other greens and or fruits. It helped a lot in that the idea was to make my body less acidic and more alkaline and to give me more energy also, the green aids the healing process.
I also happen to buy a book called the THRIVE DIET.. It's written by a vegan athlete. but I didn't buy it for that reason, I bought it because it discussed how the author was looking for better ways to heal himself after events such as Triathalons.. I learned a lot from the book and was able to apply the information to my own situation. (since pain is pain is pain) whether you are an athlete or not..

check the book and or go to droz.com << a lot of info on there as to how to relieve pain..

good luck

2 more resources: check out the website great taste no pain. she has a regular as well as a gluten free cookbook. Also, The Super Allergy Girl Allergy and Celiac cookbook.
Also, all night shades are considered inflammatory - potatoes, bell peppers, eggplant, tomatoes and sometimes spinach.
You might want to consider a modified elimination diet for all foods that are considered high for allergies. You take them all out of your diet for about 2 weeks and add them back one at a time for at least 3 days and record your reactions. I know it's a lot of work. The high allergen foods are eggs, peanuts, beef, pork, shellfish, soy, chocolate, vinegar, alcohol. There may be some others.

You should be drinking tart cherry juice. I just red where that is excellent for inflammation-esp in the joints. Trader Joes has a good version. Beyond that you need to eat really clean. Junk food, high fat food, sugar are all inflammatory as is many meats. If I were you I would eat a meditteranean diet.

Fish oil is also good for inflammation.

I am from india and one of the things we put in most of our foods is ground turmeric which is anti inflamatory and a great antiseptic too. You can get it in any indian shop and use it in warm milk or put it in your pasta sauce or curries. It doesn't have an odor and will give your dishes a nice saffrony color. Hope you get back on your feet soon!
