I've seen a lot of great posts on different places/companies that you could start your own business from home with. I need to do some searches and look them up again. If you want to give me some good ideas in this Q&A I am open to that too. My main question is that I am currently collecting unemployment (in CA) while looking for a new job. We are trying to find ways to keep our income good but down so it doesn't all go to the IRS, at least not more than they should get. With that, if I start up a business out of my home am I still able to collect unemployment if I'm not making a profit or not enough to cover/exceed my unemployment earnings? For me to work and have the kids in daycare we do need to make a minimum and and I'm afraid to loose unemployment if I start a home business but am not making 2k a month yet. I appreciate any help/insight you can provide. My current background for 12 years has been lending/finances if you need that information too. Thank you.

Check with your local unemployment office as many of them offer guidance, seminars and other assistance with starting your own business.

HI S.,

You can start a company from home and still keep your unemployment benefits as long as you are still searching for employment as they require. My sister has worked within the government bureaucracy for 30 years and has coached many on starting a home business within the system and it's regulations. We work together and will be glad to talk to you if you're interested.

Email me back here and we can exchange phone numbers if you're interested.

I work part-time for a wholesale wellness company that sells hundreds of natural household products. My company is hiring people to help enroll new customers and process new orders. Call me and we can talk more ###-###-#### or send me a private message.

As far as the unemployment, you are probably able to collect unemployment while still earning self-employed income, you just need to report it. At least in MN, my husband reported his self employment wages and still received unemployment for his lost job. Check with your state’s unemployment office.
