Hello! My cousin has a son who will be 4 in August. She is also pregnant with her second son. She is concerned he might have add or adhd but she nor her husband want to put him on medication and are looking for an alternative to calming him down. They are not wanting to try anything for another year or so until he starts school. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Well, I think it's important to address the issue now before he starts school because the medication does have side affects. There are some therapies that you may try to help him out oppose to medication. ADD/ADHD is different for each child and person but, as a mother or teacher it can be hard to cope with. I personally have seen some great things from Behavior Therapy and Counseling in Fayetteville. ###-###-####

In addition to other recommendations I read like avoiding all artificial colors and flavors, and trying OT I have read about several different types of kelp that help. Also valerian rt. has been used in Germany for many years to counter the effects of ADD/ADHD. I read about the kelp/algae supp. on Shirleys Wellness Cafe.

I am the mom of a 7 year old with ADHD. She has been in occupational therapy for about a year and a half because I refused to medicate her. Her hyperactivity hasn't gone away but they have taught her to control it and direct it into something useful like art, music, exercise etc. It has worked out amazingly. If your friend wants to look into it, let me know and I'll give you the contact info for our OT. They specialize in pediatrics so they are great with kids.
